U.S. Soccer has been talking to potential replacements for Jurgen Klinsmann for the past year:

ESPNFC

quote:

U.S. Soccer has been in contact with LA Galaxy boss Bruce Arena and Sporting Kansas City counterpart Peter Vermes within the last 12 months, the sources said. The federation declined to comment on Thursday.

After Tuesday's World Cup qualifier, the Washington Post reported that the USSF has been lining up Arena to replace Klinsmann.

Wish they would just pull the trigger already...

I will actually cry real tears of joy if this happens

It's time to make the move. These would be my top two picks as well.

Not sure I'm on the Arena train. We've been there, done that. 06 was a poor showing. It's an upgrade, but probably not a big one. And Arena never seemed interested in the whole development piece. We have some really good things going on there, and he'd probably lean on someone like Tab to run it.

Vermes would be alright. Not sure of his vision outside of the USMNT.

You bring Arena in to clean up Jurgen's shite and then hire some one for a fresh cycle after Russia.

That's how I see it too. And I would prefer Arena over Vermes.

I disagree. Arena would be an immediate upgrade because of several reasons:
1. We would have an actual game plan and tactics the players understand
2. Players would be played in their natural positions
3. Players like Nagbe, Feilhaber, Lichaj, and Lletget would immediately be back in the picture

We would literally get better overnight.

I could get behind that play.

Klinsys kumbaya approach has run its course. That kind of message is only effective for so long.

I think the attitude Bruce brings would be the perfect lockerroom counterbalance.

yeah Arena is just to hold on, get us qualified, make US Soccer fun again, then start all over after Russia

The only problem with Arena as an interim is what if he is successful in Russia. What if he makes a quarterfinal? Do we keep him or still make the change? Kind of like O at LSU. Do you want to open the door to that possibility?

Does Donovan come out of retirement to play for Arena?

Just kidding, but this needs to happen now. It is imperative that our players feel excited to play for the US again ASAP.

That sounds like a rad problem to have.

I'd say that's a good problem to have.

Yes, in some capacity, IMO.

Not as a starter, but as a camp leader.

Need to shape this shite up quickly.

Should have done it after the CR whistle.
