U.S. and Jurgen should still part ways.

If Jurgen can get them to the Hex, great. Use the time between qualifying rounds to bring somebody in.

Sunil wouldn't pull that.

As I said in the match thread, this is exactly how I feel about Louis van Gaal.

What should happen and what will happen unfortunately don't always align.

I agree, just because for once in the past year you are playing people in their natural positions doesn't excuse the past 20 matches he hasn't done that.

real dumb if a big home win against a shite team changes the narrative.
hes not getting a laderhosenfull of money to beat shite teams at home. we should be bossing shite teams in central america.

To be fair to Jurgen... he nailes personnel and tactics tonight.

castillo and zardes are huge liabilities. thats not really nailing it, thats getting lucky.
i dont think he should be applauded for realizing two years later than everyone else that good things happen when players are in positions to succeed.

I think its time for a change after this cycle. However, we could win the World Cup in 2018 and some here would be upset because it was jurgen at the helm. He deserves his criticism but so does the effort put out by many in the player pool. The consistent over valuation of our player pool at times can cloud the reality a bit.
The conversation is good though. Main stream sports radio was talking about whether Jurgen should be fired here in St Louis today and that is fantastic. Its a HUGE change from just one cycle ago where this team went through similar issues trying to reach the Hex and no one paid attention outside the niche soccer outlets.
The sport is growing here and we are slowly becoming a footballing nation...and that is fricking pretty cool in my opinion.

Zardes pace stretched the game for the first goal....
Not always about what you can do on the ball but your pace/mobility off of it. Zardes gives you that.
Agreed on Castillo.

Im not defending his selections. I have scratched my head plenty of times as well.
I think part of the problem with Jurgen's tinkering is that he feels pressure to find and develop "talent".Whether thats ego or he doesnt trust the US soccer systems and professional leagues is up for debate, I think alot of that has to do with a mandate buy US Soccer and Suni personally for him to do what he is doing.
Many selections for established soccer countries national teams are made already for any potential manager by play in top tier leagues in the world. Jurgen just doesnt trust MLS and "pyramid" in the US to develop talent. I dont think he is right but that thought has to be shared by some in the US soccer hierarchy.

zardes doesnt have a natural position because hes equally frustrating in all of them. im glad he got his shot, but i think its pretty clear at this point his place on the squad, if any, is a late game sub where that pace might make a real difference and mitigate his terrible qualities, such as constantly losing possession and sparking counters.
would much rather see if nagbe, finlay, or hell even kiesewetter couldnt provide more.

All of this. I'm sick of seeing Zardes called up.

So Zardes' pace isn't a major factor when you're pressing a team high up the field?

Dude, you are my Tarasenko loving Blues brother. I never down vote anybody, even the Russian hating figs on this board. Just shake it off bro.
