I know in general, they are very flawed. I honestly think more people probably watched the USA v Ghana game than watched game 5 of the finals. But honestly there is no real way to figure it out. They are all averages based on a small sample size.

Unless Nielson families attend these watch parties, it honestly doesn't matter, it's a very sample heavy system. That being said, watch parties happen for all sports, most of them tend to be in BWW or bars.

Internationally? I think so. I know a lot of internationals watch the NBA finals also but I doubt as many as a WC game.

I think easily more people watched USA/Ghana than game 5. And that's just counting people in the US.

I doubt regular postseason "watch parties" were anything close to what happened yesterday. My main point was, unless Nielson families got involved, it won't alter the numbers. It's a very narrow sample system, I think there are only like 10k families in the entire US.

A 7.0 is huge considering the bars and watch parties throughout the country. There may be watch parties for other big 3 postseason stuff, but probably locally as opposed to THE ENTIRE COUNTRY.

I agree the watch parties were crazy to watch, and I also agree they tend to happen locally. You might get a few outliers, like I could see the 2004 Red Sox getting some massive watch parties across the US, but all in all those parties were amazing to see.

Well the rooting interest of fans is a huge factor I think people are overlooking.
Specific sports teams based in a particular city vs an entire nation being represented

For those who don't know, Univision is a Spanish language broadcast network. It has the rights to live World Cup matches broadcast in Spanish in the United States.
The often get ratings in 3.0-6.0 range for big games featuring America or Mexico.
