if hes on an academy contract it wont even matter, if they screw him over like that he will bolt first chance he gets

No I just dont think the league is above being criticized esp with a joke of a commissioner like Garber spouting off about being a top league in 2022.

Yeah, we're all just fanboys who've never criticized MLS.

Like cwil said, Garber hasn't been right on every decision, but the league has exploded under him. Lot of changes still need to be made, though.

Just because I'm not saying obvious stuff like "going on strike won't help people get interested in the league" doesn't mean I think it's above criticism. Come on.

I'm hoping this is a good sign. I was actually pretty excited about the opening weekend (particularly Orlando City / New York City).....something I really couldn't say in years past.

Major League Soccer made a revised offer on Wednesday in the MLS Players Union's favor, according to a source with knowledge of the negotiations, as the two sides continue to make some progress on a new collective bargaining agreement with the start of the regular season just two days away.

quote:

The first reported proposal only granted free agency to players who were 32 years old and had 10 years of service in MLS. Such requirements would have applied to a single player in the league, Houston Dynamo midfielder Brad Davis. A revised offer later on Tuesday reduced those requirements to 28 years and 8 years of service, which would have impacted around five percent of the league's players.

Hearing numbers like a seven-year deal, 15 percent increase in the cap and $60,000 minimum salary. #MLSCBA

I think that's fair at this point.

I think it should have been a 5 year deal with those numbers, though.

So #MLSCBA deal is done. Hearing lots of players unhappy w/final deal. I'm told 7 teams voted against it (KC, RSL, RBNY, NYC, MON, FCD, COL)

Ives Galarcep ?@SoccerByIves 2m2 minutes ago
To clarify for anyone confused by earlier tweet, list of teams I tweeted was teams whose PLAYERS voted against accepting deal, NOT owners

Honestly that probably means it was a pretty fair deal.

Sounds like the 28yrs old and 8 years in the league held for FA. Along with the 15% salary cap increase and $60,000 minimum.

You can probably only get so much done in one cba. Changing the structure radically will probably take multiple agreements.

Yup, owners caved on the length of the contract. I'm anxious to hear the specifics of free agency. This new CBA is going to be the beginning of many changes to MLS.
