I'm worried most that MLS will lose a lot of its talent to other leagues.

I'm just glad I live within driving distance of Orlando. If I own Orlando City, who have done an excellent job of marketing that team down here, then I'm beyond pissed that some of these owners are going to be this fricking short-sighted.

I don't follow NBA or NHL but the leagues seem to be doing ok after their respective strikes. NBA especially is growing a lot.

It took the NHL a long time even though its the best league in the world.

MLS can't afford anything like this

The players still have to get FIFA approval if they want to play elsewhere because the MLS technically own the contracts. I don't know what the precedents are regarding this.

They might get out pretty easy b/c the MLS could be viewed at 3rd party onwership

It is an interesting legal issue. I don't know what legal leverage they have. I am not staying at the Holiday Inn

The last NHL strike/lock out didn't really hurt them. It made the abbreviated season pretty awesome.

I've said all along I think we'll miss the first weekend of games but they'll get something worked out the week after and I still believe that. Even though it was a ridiculous proposal by the owners, the fact that they gave any sort of flexibility with FA is a good sign.

You love the words "Mickey Mouse."

Is the NBA and the NHL also in that esteemed division of sir mouse?

One key they need to get rid of is the club's perpetual rights of a player. For example, Herc Gomez's rights are held by Sporting KC despite the fact he hasn't even played for them since 2009. I'd be pissed too. No negotiating leverage whatsoever. If you want to come back, you are pretty much held hostage to SKC's demands.

That said, when NBA went on strike and some players played abroad they pretty much all came back after the work stoppage ended.

That's an exaggeration. Missing one weekend wouldnt really be a big deal at all.

It won't be a big deal IF the players gain from it. If they still don't have any free agency, then it will be a waste.

You are missing the point. Other leagues have strikes too and they have done ok. A strike =/= Mickey Mouse league. I'm sure NBA wants to be a big league in 2022 (in addition to being one today).

You are missing the point that league wide work stoppages do not happen anywhere else in soccer. The MLS as much as we enjoy still isn't looked upon that well abroad. A strike won't help. What works for other America leagues with franchise model just doesn't work with soccer.
