You can give Wondo all the shite that you want - but it looked like he learned from the Belgium miss. He took a bouncing ball in front of goal and slammed it into the ground for the finish.

I'm sure he's replayed that miss a million times and I bet last night's finish was what he wished he would have done. Good on him.

Anyone else have a hard time figuring out what Deuces defined role is for us? He seems like a tactical nightmare out there at times. I don't get it.

Random thoughts: Yedlin continues to be a terror. Zusi is too slow and not nearly skilled enough to play how we want to play. Another good game from Bradley. There were a few attacks where it seemed our passes were half a second too late. Like we weren't sharp yesterday. I think everyone was shocked when Chandler hit that ball even him. Let's pray we never have a match go to PKs in the near future. That ref was fricking terrible. Zardes continues to shine. Meteoric rise from this kid.

Wait, what? Zusi's technical game is his strength. I've only watched the first half so far, and yeah, he was sloppy in a couple spots but he was also very tidy in others. When teams play a high line like Guatemala did, his ball retention, and Mix's, is key to opening space for others.

And actually, I love the balance we get from the fullback-mid pairs we had. Zusi tucks in, Fabs overlaps. Yedlin stays wide, and it's less pressure on Chandler to gallop forward down the touchline. He can cut in like he did on the goal, as well as that first half header he had.

I think Zardes deserves a start, he's been killing it in MLS lately, but there's something to be said for how well he played as a sub against tired legs. I like him in that role, too.

Yedlin is such a good CONCACAF outside mid in our two striker systems. It lets Jozy avoid spending the entire match in the channels and lets Dempsey be lazy and try shite up top.

Similar to what it is in Seattle, although Jurgen doesn't want him dropping deep as much and encroaching on Bradley's spots. But it's all about link up play and creating chances. I don't think Jozy and Clint are the best natural pair. They both want the ball at their feet, Jozy only really wants to get behind when the ball is at Bradley's feet deep and he's going to play it over the top.

I wish we had a true runner up top to pair with either of those guys to get in behind, just for another look. It's why Jozy and CD9 were such a good tandem back when.

Yeah we disagree. I know that's his game and just isn't good enough especially when we start playing tough competition. I'd rather our wingers have the ability to stretch the defense and take them on in 1v1 situations. Which by the way is something we seem to be having more of as of late with the emergence of Zardes, Yedlin and even AJ when he steps out wide.

"Slammed it into the ground"? What game did you watch. He didn't even have a second to think about it and basically deflected it into the goal.

Before you provide us with more hard hitting analysis, why don't you spend some more time trying to figure out if Alex Morgan dove or not?

Wondo Goal

He basically put his foot out and let the ball hit it. Wondo absolutely deserves credit for being in the right place at the right time and not screwing it up. This was not some great finish that showed he had learned some lesson after Brazil. If he had found a way to miss this chance, it would have been grounds for immediate ejection from the team. It was a typical case of Wondo poaching a goal. That's not a slight, but it was nothing more than that. They all count for 1 point on the scoreboard, but let's not make it out to be evidence of growth on his part.

You couldn't have said it better.

Sorry that you can't handle an objective perspective. I didn't drink the kool aid, so I try to see things from every point of view.

It's clear he wants the best for our team, but he sees what he wants and not reality. Textbook case of the kool-AIDs.

That's a whole lot of nonsense.

I don't think the two plays are comparable at all.

Really? Pointing out how that chance had nothing to do with Brazil is nonsense? Okay then

Like the finish against Belgium - nowhere remotely as easy as it looked, and much easier to frick up than to get right.

Uhhhh...yeah. A ball that needed to be deflected into an open net was MUCH easier to F up than a volley with a keeper charging at him.
