Zimmerman got hurt in group play.

We won with a backline of Robinson and Sands.

And no, Williamson wasn't close to making the plane even when he was healthy.

That’s still three WC starters. So not an entire B squad. Why we only gave up one goal in six games. But if you have that much faith in Aaron Long and Matt Miazga, go ahead.

Miles Robinson started in the World Cup?

ETA: Also, you do know that Canada left off Davies, Larin and David off their Gold Cup squad right?

He would have, if he was healthy. He’s been a first choice in every other competitive match he was fit for.
I haven’t seen Canada’s 23 yet (as I said) but didn’t expect them to be on it, after long European seasons. I hope they send a MLS/CanPL squad. But who is in our squad that can stop Buchanan? Or Michail Antonio?

ETA: Just came out. Borjan, Vittoria, Laryea, Miller, Eustachio, and Osorio all played last night. So that’s at least a B+ for them. LINK

But to that point, he wasn't.

You're using hindsight to say that the 2021 squad was more than a B-team when at the point of the cycle, Zimmerman, Arriola and Lletget were the only consistent call-ups. Acosta had just gotten back in the picture.

Turner and Robinson at that time had only been capped in non-FIFA international date windows.

Do you see anyone from this Gold Cup roster (other than Turner) starting consistently within two years?
Me neither.

Gaga could definitely pass up Turner in 3 years.

Excited to see Jalen Neal, but he may be more of a 2030 guy.

Reynolds, Cowell, Zendejas, Djordje, Sonora all have opportunity to up their stock with a good tournament. Just like Miles and Turner did 2 years ago. Vazquez could have something to say about the #9 depth as well.

We’ll see. I do think this group will score more than the ‘21 side’s 11 in six matches (including six against Martinique) But I think they’ll give up more too!

I’m sure this group will fight, but I don’t think we’re at the point yet where we can send a complete B-squad and win an international tournament.

Lmao what

GGG embarrassed Tata and Mexico’s first team winning every game at the gold cup last cycle with a B/C (mostly C) team.

Our starting lineup in the final:

Hoppe Zardes Arriola
Lletget Acosta Williamson
Bello Sands Robinson Cannon
Turner

Subs were Moore, Vines, Roldan, Busio, Gooacchini, and Kessler.

In what world is this squad collectively anything more than a B/C team? Even that may be generous.

Beyond that we didn’t have much, which is why we struggled to score (that & GGG’s tactics).

Was it a lack of players who could score or was it the tactics

So…. Tactics?

You can be tactically sound defensively and still lack creative ideas offensively—I think that’s the whole knock on GGG. Even with our top talent we’ve struggled to score.

That is undoubtedly his biggest weakness as a coach. I’m praying he figures it out. I think having an actual striker, not being married to the MMA midfield, and playing Reyna centrally will help fix the issue.
