UEFA scraps away goals rule

Teams level after 2 legs go to extra time and penalties.
Not sure I like this change. I think scoring away from home should count for something.

This is in response to alot of the bigger teams losing on away goals the last few years ... like PSG did against United a few years back ... thats when it really started to get louder

Not a fan of them scrapping it entirely.
They should scrap the away goal rule just if the 2nd leg goes to extra time. Because in that case it really is unfair that one team gets an extra 30' to score an away goal.

It counts as a goal…
Away goals was the dumbest rule on the books.

Prior to the away goals rule teams would bunker away rather than trying to attack. Away goals were implemented to encourage attacking play. Away goals was good for the entertainment factor, which is really what should matter to us as fans. Not sure I agree with doing away with it.

One thing this rule will do is make explaining European soccer to people a lot easier. This was always the thing that took the longest.

This is high quality trolling right here.

I think it's a silly rule but it does eliminate the possibility of going from elimination to advancement with one swing of the boot which was always crazy exciting/nerve racking.

Get ready for underdog sides playing away in the first leg to set up shop. No reason to risk anything when the away goal doesn't hold extra weight.

Ehh Arsene been saying this for a long time. Sane with a lot of people.
United winning didn't make it louder, it was already like that.

Didn't Juvy get hosed on the rule this year? Or am I misremembering?

Bayern lost to Atletico on away goal in Pep's last year managing the squad. Away goal was a trash rule and I'm glad it's going away.

Not sure, Arsenal lose a lot like that, haha that's why Arsene was against it.
But I think more so because of what the poster above said. If you are away in the second leg and it's tied. Your goal counts double in overtime basically and have more time to score it than the team that was away in game 1.
Why? A goal is a goal. Shouldn't count for more.
And then there was this past season, an outlier, when neither team was even playing at home. So what was the point in away goals?

I agree... Away team of 2nd leg should not have an advantage if everything is level after 180'
