Mignolet plays the ball, contacts the ball first.

Yellow card.

PK.

This ref is a horror.

It was close but the second replay showed that Migs got the ball.

The first replay showed it as well.

Now the entire world can lecture Liverpool about their horrible defense again without consideration of the fact that the officials were carrying the LC floppers and divers on their shoulders.

Our defense is shaky enough without the other teams offense being given gifts.

I know it's early but that is a massive 3 points for our confidence going forward.

Saw a lot of the same worrying signs, but I agree with you in general. I think we may end up seeing a lot of 3-2, 3-3, 4-3 results. It’s fun, but also frustrating.

Yeah - I look forward to every single one of our goals allowed being over scrutinized for the entire season... Can't hardly wait...

On a positive note - as bad as the last week was... here we sit at 5th in the table and now we get Mane back... We will finally get to see out attacking front 4 playing together...

To be fair, it looked like Can was a lot more conservative to give us more protection behind the front 4, but the other goals were pretty indifferent of that

That first goal was a series of atrocious calls from the ref... should have never come to that..

On the second, they got a fortunate deflection IMO... these things happen and goals are scored...

Can we defend better? absolutely... Lovren looked like an amateur trying to play Vardy offside... nice save from Migs..

With Vardy back in, it would have been insane to not play a little more conservatively...

One lasting... Ive been pretty pleased with Studge this season and his role... The goals will come... he has looked the best he has in a few years...

Also, nice finish from the skipper... I was afraid the chance had gone for a second there..

Sturridge has. I stick by my prediction at the beginning of the year that he won't miss more than 5 games in a row. He obviously doesn't have his pace, but you can still see his technical ability and pure ability of striking the ball. Just a great super sub to have on the bench

Pretty good article concerning Liverpool and how they play defense.

https://www.irishtimes.com/sport/soccer/english-soccer/ken-early-strong-case-for-the-defence-of-jurgen-klopp-s-vision-1.3232398?mode=amp

quote:

Yet those who claim that this proves Klopp can’t organise a defence have to explain how it is that such a poorly-organised team does such a good job of restricting their opponents’ opportunities to shoot at goal. Liverpool have allowed their opponents fewer shots than any other team except Manchester City.

That’s because Klopp, like Pep Guardiola, is one of those system managers who believes that the best way to defend is to play the game in the other team’s half, far away from your goal. And their systems appear to work, because City and Liverpool are also the two teams who have had most shots on their opponents’ goals.
