Here's a pic of some of their recent singings, which most of us know include deals of 50 mil euros for Alex Teixeira and a a 42 mil deal for Jackson Martinez.

Apparently, Dmitri Payet of West Ham, who has an impressive 50 percent win percentage with him in the team and an abysmal 14.3 win percentage without him, is the league's next target. Rumors are spreading that a team is willing to offer 38 mil pounds for him, including wages 135,000 pounds a week after taxes.

What are everyone's thoughts about CSL?

It's insane. They aren't even in FIFA (the video game). And they are signing tons of relevant players. God bless Paulinho. He found another club who way overvalued him.

I think a 50 Mil Daniel Sturridge would fit in great with those guys.

It's not that surprising. The Chinese FA is committed to China becoming a superpower. They have a shite ton of kids in youth academies. What they are trying to do is to end the PL's monopoly there by bringing in better names so that locals start following CSL teams more. The benefits won't be seen for the next decade, but it will probably work, especially if they go on two or three more spending sprees.

Also these clubs are pretty much state owned with basically unlimited funds.

It will be defunct or massively reformed in ten years. Completely unsustainable. FFS, one of the clubs just paid £3 mill for Osman fricking Sow, who only had a couple months left on his contract.

They've been trying this in basketball and it hasn't worked at all. It will be interesting to see how much more pull they have in the soccer world.

I doubt this works. Eventually the money will find better returns and the big transfers and wages will stop

I'm not convinced it will actually work like I mentioned with basketball. The sport is insanely popular over there and they have signed some very recognizable names (that have basically retired), but they haven't really seen any development of actual players.

quote:

The CBA estimates that there are 300 million Chinese youth who actively play the sport – the equivalent of the entire population of the U.S.

Yet they are getting worse. They used to be far and away the best team in Asia, but they can't even win there regularly anymore.

More of a novelty league to me.

Gonna be funny to watch 3 world class forwards, who cost a combined $200m, looking like they just joined a team as good as Wigan

That is probably true of the EPL as well. The new Sky deal is going to inspire insanity.

As bad as Chinese basketball players are, their hockey players are 100x worse. Yet the KHL is expanding to Beijing next year.
