Exactly. Think I read somewhere he had 3 goals in 9 CL matches in '13.

3 in 9 '12/13 UCL matches (7 assists)
8 in 5 so far this season

i think that meme has kinda gone overboard, personally.

With 4 against Anderlecht

It's what he's known for, with good reason

it's so subjective and such a small sample size, it just doesn't make sense to me. i mean, hell, no match was bigger than a do-or-die to get into a WC match against Portugal and went nuts. 1 goal, 2 assists in the two legs vs. Barca last year, 2 goals in 3 matches in the Euros, destroyed us in the UCL 2 years ago, etc.

should Suarez make the team if he continues his struggles against top 8 teams this season? (3 in 7 matches in all comps)

We can judge Suarez if he ever plays for a top team. For now he doesn't, voiding your argument.

Ibra does, and has, played for a top club his entire career. He has literally cherry picked transfer moves to tile winning sides year after year. What was it, 9 league titles in a row? 0 CL final appearances.

He struggles in big matches, with scoring as well as work rate.

actually, you saying that voids my argument is partially my argument in the first place, but no need to get into that.

pretty much, i'd like someone to do a thorough analysis of him "in 'big' matches" but ain't nobody got time for that

You don't see how Suarez being on pace to shatter league scoring records in England while playing in a front 3 of him, Raheem Sterling (19) and Coutinho (21) is a little different than Ibra playing with Cavani, Lavezzi, Pastore and Moura in a terrible league?

The point is that comparing Suarez in big games to Ibra in big games is null and void. Ibra plays with superstars for a club that is better than 95% of its opponents. Suarez plays alongside budding talents in a much, much better league for a club who has been closer to 10th than 1st the last 4 seasons.

3 goals in 7 matches is bad?

Somewhat impressive actually, considering he was double and triple marked for 90 minutes in all 7 of those matches.

The point isn't really Suarez, RVP, Aguero, Cavani, Falcao vs. Ibra so much as it is what has Ibra done to deserve that spot?

He's a good player, and he has been for years, but he has played on 8 consecutive title winning teams and has never made a CL final. In 2013 he scored 1 goal in 4 knockout matches in the CL. He scored 3 goals total in 9 CL matches in 12/13, and wasn't even his club's leading scorer in the tournament. Moreover, he tied for 3rd in WCQ goals, behind RVP who won the golden boot.

His crutch is goals scored, which are grossly exaggerated because of Ligue 1, and the occasional karate goal.

my point was that the whole "big game" argument is subjective and a very small sample size. it's a sticking point for zlatan with no context ever given, and I think that's unfair. especially since recently, as in the examples I listed, he's been quite good in big matches.

also, not that it really matters, but lavezzi, pastore and moura haven't exactly lit shite on fire at PSG. sturridge has been on better form than any of those players, and coutinho has been better than pastore this season.

that's true. and also true of Messi, Ronaldo, Ribery, Xavi, Iniesta, et al who all have significantly better supporting casts. there are a lot of factors to consider, i just very much dislike the "big game" argument which seems like an even more ridiculous version of the "clutch" argument in baseball. i don't know if i'd have picked Ibra for the team, but it wouldn't have been because of that reason.

that's not true. i know arsenal didn't double mark him.

nah, but he kept criticizing 3 goals in 9 (with 7 assists), hence me using that as an example.

that's actually very good imo.

Can somebody try to explain what Dani Alves did this year that would warrant his place?

there's a number of names on that list. don't think iniesta, xavi, alves, or ramos should have been on there. probably Ibra too but i think he has a better argument than those four.

CB is interesting to me because there's thiago silva then a slew of other CBs in the second tier. you could make a legitimate argument for probably about 10 CBs to pair with Thiago. Ramos isn't one of those 10 IMO.
