Brian Sciaretta? @BrianSciaretta 8m8 minutes ago I understand the Schalke adversely affected the US U-20 team blocking the release of Weston McKennie & Nick Taitague

Damn, no Olosunde.

ETA: Oh shite, Sargent did make it. I loved that idea until I learned that a player can't play in both U-20 & U-17 World Cups.

ETA2: According to Sciaretta, apparently Sargent CAN play in both this year. New rule.

ETA3: I'm assuming Schalke blocked Haji Wright, too?

I don't hate it, would've been nice to have the Schalke guys though.

Seems like a weak team compared to what we could be taking.

Midfield depth is weak as shite and Fossey is the only true outside back on the roster.

Think Derrick Jones would play over Adams

Still have no idea why he's not at least the backup. We played Keving freaking Ellis over him last weekend.

It's like pretty much everyone we have in a european academy wasn't released and/or Ramos didn't pick them.

Akale (Villareal), The Schalke trio, Josh Perez (Fiorentina), McKinzie Gaines (Wolfsburg), Matt Olusunde (Man United).

And what sucks is that you could make a case for any of those guys to start for us. A lot of talent left at home.

I'm not really a fan of our front three. Neither Ebobisse nor Saucedo impressed me during qualifying.

And it sucks that those guys weren't released or called in. I mean, Pogba played in the last U20 World Cup for which he was eligible. I really wanted to see Akale and Olusunde.

Our attacking options leave a lot to be desired and couple that with the fact that Justen Glad will likely be our left back, we will have like no real threat on the wings.

Zelalem and De La Torre will have to have great tournaments for us to make a deep run.

I don't see this team performing as well as two years ago.

Tab throwing some shade:

quote:

“Schalke was pretty straight-forward with, ‘Our U-19s are more important than your national team, so they’re going to stay here until we’re done playing’. That’s something for our young players to look at. When they go to Europe, sometimes you sign for a club that thinks your national team is not important at the youth level, so you have to deal with that.”

Schalke Surprised at Ramos' Frustration

quote:

"The comments leave us surprised," Spiegel added. "It would have been similar with players of all other nationalities. But U.S. Soccer said that in this case they would not call him up."

When I see European clubs not releasing our guys

I take it as a compliment on how far we have progressed even with the factors that hold back American youth development

Is there any particular reason a club team wouldn't release our youth guys? The seasons are winding down and it's not like they are first teamers, seems like they would want the players getting as much on field time as possible.

The U-19 tournament in Germany is a pretty big thing.

i admittedly don't know much about our youth players, and i'm wondering if Klinsmann is in fact considered one of our top youth goalkeepers? just curious.

He was really good in the CONCACAF Championships.

He's a little bitch, but as long as he keeps balls out of the goal, I'm cool.
