I just found this. Give it a watch. None of it surprises me, with regards to attitudes towards soccer, but you can tell that acceptance of the sport, even in the south, seems to be on the up and up.

Yeah, but they have a 3 man crew so I think they're doing alright with what they've got. But I agree with you, it wasn't all that diverse in its scope.

BBC Pop Up isn't really supposed to be an in depth, all bases covered thing. It's just a couple guys with cameras getting to know a town for a month or so.

Cool piece. Nothing groundbreaking. Good click fodder.

I wish he could have seen the youth soccer tournament going on, during the Ole Miss game, just down the road in Mandeville. There were 1000's of soccer fans/players playing and enjoying the game.

The youth of this state love the international game and are much more exposed to it with the Premier League and MLS available to them.

Nothing really surprising in that segment.

BBC did one of these in DC about La Bara Brava basically saying wtf is up with these Americans acting like real soccer fans.

I would love to see an MLS team set up a legit academy here in NOLA. I know there is some Chicago fire connection but I don't think it's the same as what RSL has done with a real academy in AZ.

The affiliated clubs send some coaches and put camps for the clubs, but not much more than that.

There are several clubs affiliated with MLS teams across Louisiana and it dosent seem to be any more than permission to use the logo and branding.

Soccer is healthy in BR. It's not overwhelmingly popular, but it may get there in the future. LSU's pick up group plays every single day and the field always becomes too crowded. Burbank is packed on the weekends with kids playing. Indoor normally has a decent amount of teams in every league.

I started that group. It's my pride and joy, and I never thought it would get so big.

Yeah that means rising/growing.

Do you know where they play mostly these days? Still the parade grounds and UREC? How many people show up on a normal day? Does anyone bring goals or do people just use bags, water bottles, shoes, etc? I haven't played with the group in years because of school, among other issues.

We had been playing at UREC all fall, but they're closing it with the construction. Been playing on the redone fields at River Road.

Literally there's been a game just about every single day. I'd say around 30 most days. Normally Friday has the biggest turn out though, can get up to around 40.

Goals are normally cones/bags/shoes. There's a few people who bring the smaller goals.
