Hendo mentioned this earlier.

quote:

It's not about tonight. It's not about Jurgen Klinsmann. It's not about Bruce Arena.
US Soccer is not prepared. They have not done a good enough job of getting this group ready to play.

And keep in mind: The last two Olympics, no United States. Those players that would've been playing in those Olympics — 23 through 28 — how many of them would be playing on this roster? The players have to be good enough, too.

A lot of people on social media want to say, "It's Jurgen Klinsmann's fault. It's Bruce Arena's fault. It's Sunil Gulati's fault."

By the way, as an ex-player, those players, for the rest of their lives... nightmares. Because this is an utter embarrassment. With the amount of money in Major League Soccer and in this sport, you can't get a draw... a tie... against Trinidad? You don't deserve to go to the World Cup, plain and simple.

quote:

This is everything. I remind everyone, Max, Germany in the 2000 Euros laid an egg.
And everybody came together — Bundesliga, 2. Bundesliga, the German football federation — came together with a 10-year plan. Guess what happened in 10 years? They won that World Cup. (Think he's referring to the 2004 Euros.)

If this failure doesn't wake up everyone from US Soccer to Major League Soccer from pay to play to broadcasters, then we're all insane. Because the definition of insanity is doing the same thing and knowing the result. And if we don't change it, and I mean everyone, then what are we doing? What's the point?

Because that should've never happened with the billon dollars plus that is going into Major League Soccer and youth development. That should've never happened. And it did, and every single person should look themselves in the mirror — and by the way, that's including myself, I played for the program.

quote:

You and I have talked about this off camera, and I see that little red light above that camera, I'm going to bring it up right now.

The gloves should've been off years ago. We should have been having real criticism. And the discussion after Brazil, Max, was "Can we beat the Columbias and the Belgiums and the Argentinas of the world?" You kidding me? We can't beat Trinidad on a [air quotes] "Field that's too wet and too heavy?" [/air quotes]

What are we doing? WHAT ARE WE DOING?

This is the discussion that's being had. It's remarkable to me, when I go on this stupid thing right here [picks up phone] at how ignorant people are when the rest of the world... Belgium played Bosnia on a cow pasture.

[sarcastically] But we can't play Trinidad with water on the field.

Dude is a hero. More guys need to be going off. As long as we don't give a frick, the players won't give a frick, Gulati will do whatever he wants. Create accountability.

Twellman is absolutely right. Our players respond like bitches whenever there is any criticism, by Lalas especially.

I've watched this three times already, it is spot on. It needs to be played on repeat on the plane ride home.

The amount of truth in what he said brought a tear to my eye. I would have given anything to be on that field tonight representing the USA, and 98% of them looked like they didn’t give a shite.

fricking Trinidad.... Trinidad...

Should have thrown all the players under the bus and said they should all lose their jobs except a handful

I'm in disbelief right now. I kind of laughed off the result and the idea of us not qualifying, but the reality is setting in. How did this team sink so low?

A lot of people were gong off on Lalas but he was saying things that need to be said. This team needs more pressure. The whole program does. There is no accountability.

The old guard fought their arse off to try and make US soccer relevant.

This team was soft and a disgrace..

glad they are getting called out.

fricking this. They grew up playing soccer in the US pre-94 cup. They knew they had to play their dicks off. I hope he, Lalas, and everyone else goes on a warpath for the next 5 years.
