Should Jurgen experiment with a back three?

I feel like we have some of the personnel for it, but it's something you've got to practice and experiment with during friendlies before you put it out there in a meaningful game.

First of all, we've got the wingbacks. Yedlin on the right and Fabs on the left is kind of perfect.

I don't think, like some have said, that Yedlin's future is as more of a winger. But he was kind of born to be a wingback, and with him and Fab getting down the lines we don't really need out and out wingers.

Then at the back we have some options: Besler, Brooks, Cameron, Gonzo, Parkhurst (only 30, could provide depth), younger guys like Okugo, Packwood, etc.

I'm not sure how the rest of the team would fill out. Clearly Bradley somewhere in the middle, Jozy up top.

Fab Brooks Yedlin back three for the future

have bradley and cameron as the holding mids in front of them.

Nah. You'd have Yedlin and Fab as your outside mids in that formation.

Two of those aren't CBs. You're better than this.

depends who are CB's are and their abilities

if you decide to play those two at mid(rather we yedlin in the back)

you could go 3-4-3 and play green in a robben type roll on the wing

not a great idea IMO. like you said, a 3 man backline isn't really something you can just switch into or dick around with. it needs to be drilled heavily because it is so much different. none of those guys have ever played it, none of those guys will be playing in that system on the club level, and i'm not sure any but besler and maybe cameron would fit that kind of system. i think it'd be a mistake and would take off a creative player by adding an extra defender.

I assume it won't really be a priority, but it's something to think about.

I just can't do 2018 projections, but for the next friendly I wouldn't mind seeing something like:

Jozy
Green-Mix-Bedoya
Cameron-Bradley
Fab-Besler-Gonzo-Yedlin

your post below didn't explain anything though. unless you're saying all our CBs will be so shite, two defensively challenged fullbacks will be our second and third best options at CB.

I would say it's still a huge risk at this point. With the amount of defending the US has had to do at this WC, a back three would be difficult. We would have to get more technically proficient in midfield and show an ability to hold some possession at the highest levels. With that said, I think that a back three would align with the type of football JK wants to play.

my fap formation is 4-3-3

fab-brooks-cameron-yedlin in the back
Mix-Bradley-Bedoya ( he bust his arse on D and can cover yedlin)

Green-jozy- bacon????

if we can find a solid replacement move fab to midfield also

No clue who will be there but we should be improved at CB by then is what I meant.

I don't know if I'd say it's a huge risk, because I wouldn't want it anywhere near a meaningful match until we had used it in multiple friendlies.

It probably won't happen and it's not like I desperately want it to happen- mainly I just love the idea of Yedlin and Fabian as the wingbacks.

I would't be surprised if a European club that regularly plays 3 at the back started seriously looking at Yedlin.

Projecting 2018 is a clusterfrick to begin with, but I don't know why some people are ruling out Bedoya. He'll only be 31 (30?).

I feel like Sheep when I see Josh Gatt and no Bedoya.

Can't be serious.

ETA: I see this has been discussed. I definitely don't want to lose Yedlin or Johnson's dynamism on the outside.

i know they're not CB, we having fun in here

my 4-3-3 do

also will be interesting to see where Fab plays at his new club

Id rather him play in the midfield where he can have more of an impact in the game.

Yeah, you're right, I just meant at the highest levels it would be at this point. I like the idea of experimenting with a back three in the meantime though.
