quote:

“Our beloved sport is ill, losing global leadership. The young people are increasingly less interested, a trend to revert before it is too late. The new generations prefer other spectacles, like the online platforms or video games. They are asking for a quality product that football does not provide, because the current competitions do not attract them… Even the final phases.”

Much of the discourse was about comparison between American sports and football, pointing out that the TV rights for the NFL have surpassed that of the Champions League. Perez also compared football to tennis, which sees some of the top players play each other regularly.

“UEFA is increasing the number of games between irrelevant teams. With that, it will only accelerate the decadence of European football. According to Forbes, Madrid is the 13th most valuable club in the world and before we were 5th. There are only three football clubs in that ranking. The trend is inarguable. They must be doing something very well in the United States and very badly in the old Europe.”

Don't buy any of this bullshite.

He is doing this because he wants a European Super League where Real Madrid would earn over $400 million a year in revenue because they can't keep up with financial heavyweights like Man City and PSG and now Newcastle as they are oil rich and state backed clubs.

This is all self preservation. A super league will never happen because all the English clubs and German clubs won't be allowed to join. This was proven last season

I would think a sure fire way to piss off more soccer fans in Europe would be to turn it into the nfl.

These owners / chairman / etc need to realize young people are paying less attention in general, they don’t care about the “model”.

You absolutely nailed it. If anything our sports should model the European model. Academies, no draft,no cap promotion and relegation.

That trend is not going to revert significantly no matter what they do

Though I know a number of young guys that only keep up with the NFL because of fantasy football

They could use more exciting finishes. The last soccer match I remember hearing about because it went viral was Manchester City winning their first title in an exciting finish.

madrid and barcelona need cash, that's his ploy

it's not bad enough, that his club already takes a huge chunk of the money, while rest of league gets hand outs.

the days of them spending recklessly has come back to bite both barcelona and madrid, time to sell to an american billionaire, or terror funding oil baron

The sport is not declining. These morons just don't understand their product and how to package it. You could embrace twitch and gaming culture, and the sport would continue to grow. You could streamline access to games so people don't have either resort to expensive cable packages or a weird constellation of streaming services in order to watch a single game. These clubs sit on so much archival media footage that lose money by copyright striking older matches, as the better way to go would be to sell those old matches very cheaply or work with people on YouTube who like breaking down tactics or some shite.

The main issue is the ease of accessing games. But these morons are always so greedy and retarded.

I would argue American tv is harming American sports due to the amount of commercial stoppage to pay for the tv contracts.

That’s like the opposite I feel in the US.

More and more people show up for the wc games, more people at the bars for the early morning pl games.

Prob because American football now is a 4 hour deal. The LSU game last night was what? 3 hours and 40 minutes. That’s insane, and most of the time im being sold pills.

I’m not even a marketing guy but the way the premier league has been presented here blows shite out of the water.

Especially as an arsenal fan trying to watch Europa league on paramount, it looks third rate shite and isn’t really advertised.

NBC obviously has taken advantage with peacock, but even before that their coverage was impressive.

I mean that’s just not true for Madrid. Not even in top 25 of most spent last 10 years.

how many dubious penalties have Man U got over the years? Let’s not act like America is the only place where this happens

Not many. In fact, United struggle to win penalties since Klopp cried about it 3 or 4 seasons ago.

To make the sport more level there are only 8 teams in all of Europe who can win the champions league
Man city
Liverpool
CHELSEA
BAYERN MUNICH
PSG
BARCA
REAL MIDRID
JUVE
Out of over a hundred teams
You can't put a salary cap because they all play in different leagues in different countries.
It's an odd dynamic
