With qualifying wrapped up (I’m aware and don’t care) who do you have on the plane to Qatar. Assuming full health, I think the state or the plane is:

Locks:

Turner
Steffen
Jedi
Miles
Zimmerman
Dest
Richards
Mckennie
Adams
Musah
Acosta
LDLT
Aaronson
Pulisic
Reyna
Weah

I count those 16 guys as locks at the moment, leaving 1 GK spot and 6 field spots TBD.

I don’t think any forward has booked their spot just yet. Two from the group of Pepi, Ferreira, Dike, Zardes, Sargent, and Pefok seem likely. Ferreira at this point is probably the closet to moving into the lock category followed by Pepi.

I think one of Arriola/Morris will find a spot as the last wing player on the plane and to provide some age.

The midfield to me seems set with MMA, Acosta, LDLT. Given the ability of aaronson, Reyna, pulisic to all play in the middle I dont see anyone else making it. Busio/Sands/Roldan/Lletget are out.

Defense is where I see the largest pool of players competing for 3 spots and the spot where some good players will be left out. I could see anyone of cannon, yedlin, long, brooks, EPB, CCV, Scally, Moore, Bello or Vines making it. Of these I would probably say yedlin is the closest to booking a spot.

Johnson/horvath competing for the final GK spot.

The only dual national I’m aware of that could enter the equation is Folarin Balogun.

A healthy US team is going to be a handful.

Always someone random who makes it that no one was considering 6 months prior.

Perhaps Mihailovic, KDLF, Tessman, or any number of players could emerge.

People will laugh, but a healthy Jozy makes this roster

Call me crazy but I think Pepi and Ferreira are basically locks at this point. I think the battle is for striker #3 if we bring 3.

Also what will be interesting is if FIFA keeps it limited to 23 or if we have expanded rosters this go around

If he gets healthy and Bruce gets him playing anywhere near his past levels absolutely 100% you bring him.

I don’t trust him to come to form based on his recent history, but it would be fantastic if he did. I trust 0 of our other strikers.

Is Balogun a realistic option for the World Cup? I read where he is expected to commit to play for us soon

I’m hoping it’s an expanded roster. We actually have the depth to potentially benefit from it. 26 seems like a good, albeit arbitrary, number.

Balogun isn’t exactly lighting it up at Middlesbrough. For him to have a sniff of a chance he needs to be on fire for Arsenal starting in August or get a loan move where he is unstoppable. I don’t think either of those things happen.

I don’t think any striker is a lock. It’s going to be a lot like 2010 where Herc, Buddle and Robbie Findley had no real call ups under Bob, but there they were on the plane to South Africa. Granted, there were some terrible circumstances that led to that.

I think the only striker that doesn’t really have a chance is Pefok because he just offers nothing other than being a poacher and Gregg wants the striker to do more in the system.

I think this is correct. Part of his problem is he is also likely at his ceiling club wise so it’s not like he can do something club wise to force a re-evaluation. At least in theory a guy like Dike can start scoring for west brom and get back into the argument.

Likewise if Pepi finds his footing in the bundesliga he’ll be on the plane. If Augsburg gets relegated though . . .

Arriola has played well during qualifiers. He’s not the best talent but he makes up a lot in effort.

If I had to make a roster right now:

GK: Steffen, Turner, Johnson
DEF: Dest, Yedlin, A. Robinson, Scally, Zimmerman, M. Robinson, Richards, Brooks
MID: McKennie, Adams, Musah, Acosta, De La Torre
FWD: Pulisic, Reyna, Weah, Aaronson, Arriola, Ferreria, Pepi

If the roster expands to 26, I’m adding Sargent, Cannon, and I guess Morris

Starting XI would be:

Steffen
Dest-Zimmerman-Richards-A. Robinson
Adams
Musah-McKennie
Reyna-Weah-Pulisic

Maybe it’s not unusual to have such a clear roster at the end of qualifying, but I think almost everyone at this point would pick those same GK, Mids, and FWDs. Defender is really the only spot with some sorting left to do.

Yedlin is a lock imo

Here’s my question: is Miles Robinson the nailed on starter to partner with Zimmerman?

I think Zimmerman has shown his spot is solidified as a starter, especially with how dominant he is in the air.

Who do we partner with him? M Robinson does fine but I still want to see JAB get another shot and possibly Long?

What say y’all? Is Robinson WC quality?

Then you would of banned Ferreira for missing a similar sitter earlier in the cycle?

Pepi and Sargent could start knocking in goals next season in II divisions of their leagues so it will be a tougher decision.
