Saw this twitter gem earlier... Love the early business done.

But now I am reading the Gotze is likely to stay at Bayern, now that Ancelotti is there. He indicated he is committed to the club. That sucks. Other rumors though, I am seeing info that we are interested in Chilwell and Drinkwater from Leicester, and potentially Shane Long from Southampton, but that makes little sense since we are full up front with Sturridge, Origi, and Ings, plus BR is no longer calling the shots haha I just want a LB.

Those stories are jumping the gun a bit in my opinion. Not to say it's not possible he won't stay, but he just said what you'd want him to say and not burn bridges with the club he's at should he stay for next season. We've seen it plenty of times before

Case in point

Pump the breaks on Gotze dispair. He very well could be staying. But a lot of players give lip service like this when pressed about a potential move. It's simply insurance to cover if the deal falls through. He also fired his agent who, according to sources, was pushing him hard to go to Dortmund. He's supposedly already signed a new agent who represents Karius and Firmino.

That doesn't means he's coming. But I certainly wouldn't rule it out yet.

I am curious to see how all the shakes out with Gotze. Him dropping his long time agent was odd. I am curious if no Champions League or Europa hurts our bid with him, or if he welcomes an opportunity to be a bigger contributor. I am also curious to see what kind of buzz he draws from other big clubs.

Well Klopp has been pretty open about saying every player they contact will be immediately ignored and interest dropped if they won't come without Europe. Of course it could still play a part, but just 3 days ago Gotze slumped off toward the dressing room by himself immediately after the DFB Pokal victory. That doesn't seem like the actions of a guy who wants to stay at Bayern.

Who knows. Professional soccer players are bizarre people.

Yup. Still a long way to go at this point. We've made our pitch it seems. Would be nice to get it taken care of before the Euros if it does happen. But I've followed too many transfer windows to be surprised and disappointed if it doesn't come off.

And while we're talking about transfer tumors, Paul Joyce said Mahmoud Dahoud is our priority for a CM ahead of Zielinski. Zielinski looks like a good prospect, but Dahoud is farther along, younger, and looks like he would make a great partner for Can potentially leaving us set at midfield for the next decade. He'd probably be ~£20m but I would be pumped if we got him.

I'm sure he has a backup immediate impact player in mind anyway. Not like we'd be walking away this summer empty handed. Unlike the Brenda Rogers regime...

I really like Zielinski, but don't know much about this other guy other than he's very highly touted. Either player oozes potential. Would be very interesting to see them under Klopp's wing with a full preseason and a season without Europe to learn the system.

Mahmoud Dahoud

I hate that we may be targeting good players from the other team I support.

Dahoud seems more of a box to box CM a little more willing to track back and make tackles with a longer passing range. Apparently will fit the high energy and running all game mindset of Klopp

Zielinski seems a little more attack minded with less defensive work rate. Hes tidy with the ball like Dahoud, but seems to like to work the short passing game more.

The thing that sucks is it looks like Xhaka's headed to Arsenal.

They'll want hefty fees if they're losing their midfield partnership, and Arsenal looks to lay it for Xhaka. Dahoud won't warrant as high of a fee, but I think the price might be jacked up a little bit

Hate to lose both of them, but but at least they will bring a lot of cash. At least we have CL to lure better players.

But Dahoud is legit. If stays with either BMG of LFC, I'll be happy.

I see Can and Xhaka being very similar players. Should make Dahoud's acclimation a little easier.

So, by this rational.. are we assuming Can is the long term DM for Klopp? Because Dahoud is not one...

I'd say so, he really hasn't done much to prove he shouldn't fill that role yet

Are you assuming he's not?

I'm still not convinced its his best position... but I trust Klopp's intuition...

Even if it's not, he's certainly more than serviceable there for the next year while we worry about much, much larger concerns imo...

Btw, isn't it refreshing for once to see the deficiencies with this team and the early indication be that our targets actually move to address them?

I think so. He may be better in the B2B, but you won't find a better suited specimen to play at the base of the midfield. He can slot a through ball beautifully (Origi goal against Dortmund, Exhibit A), and can turn pretty much anyone in the league with his body alone. Give Klopp a summer and a week of training every week and he's going to be the best in the league.

Looks like a bigger, stronger version of Joe Allen with a deep cross field ball.
