Long story short, Medel fouled Neymar and what could have been a yellow in the friendly against Chile over the weekend. After the match Neymar compared it to something you see in UFC and then proceeded to bitch about Medel not getting carded.

It's a lot easier to get cards called against your opponents when you're not known around the planet for diving. He is the only reason that things like that get missed, the referees can't trust that he's actually going down on behalf of the defender.

I'm just getting sick of it. Rant over.

You're defense doesn't make sense in this particular context.

Whether Neymar dives a lot has nothing to do with Medal's stamp. Chile very clearly targeted Neymar from the beginning, and basically kicked the shite out of him the whole game. The fact that the ref didn't protect Neymar (I mean, it was pretty blatant by the 15th minute what Chile were doing), then how can you blame Neymar for going down easily when he feels he isn't being protected? Diving for me is part of the game, as is targeting a player with tactical fouling, but Medal went way beyond that with his stamp, which should always be a red card. I don't know if Atkinson ever reffed two South American teams, but it was clear that they dared him to control the game, and he failed in doing so. It was still a friendly. It was ridiculous to watch.

Yea, he does.

As do all other players like him. How many guys has he got sent off by acting like a bitch in his career?

Speaking of bitch, karma is one.

I think the same about people who support and defend divers.

Basically all players dive or at the very minimum, embellish contact. And there will always be diving as long as there are differences between players with regards to size, speed, strength and technique. It's up to the referee to spot these instances. I'm all for video review of important moments that lead to suspensions after the fact, as long as equal weight is given to incidents like this (I realize that more weight is given to these moments than dives in general).

What I hate more is the crowding of referees in order to influence a card. That is much more ridiculous.

A diver doesn't deserve to be stomped on.

Now if he was going around stamping then maybe a lil eye for eye action would warrant this.

But a serve stamp that could hurt someone isn't justice for diving.

It's ridiculous but nowhere near as ridiculous as diving.

Yeah I don't see how anyone could argue against this, or that Neymar's "karma" earned him this.

Him picking up a 2nd yellow getting sent off b/c someone dived would be an equal reap what you sow.

Costa getting studs in the back of his legs is reap what you sow.

Wayne Bridge fricking John Terry's wife is reap what you sow

Agree to disagree. Diving has always been a part of the game, and technical differences will always result in smaller, technical players embellishing contact at the first opportunity. The lack of respect for the referee makes giving difficult decisions that much harder.

Not getting calls because everyone knows you're a diving, cheating, p***y pos, is reaping what you sow.

In this instance, Neymar's reaction was understandable. I know people hate him, but it's not like he dove. He got stamped on fairly clearly and was kicked all game. If the referee can't protect him in clear instances where he is being targeted, then what incentive does he have not to dive at the first opportunity?
