the thing is that compared to John Carver, McClaren is Alex Ferguson.

Oh I know. I am excited for this season and will try to listen/watch as many NUFC games as possible. Newcastle's greatest strength (currently) is the attack and counterattack. I hope that McClaren learned some things from this game and will let his players run for 90+. I don't trust this current squad to park any sort of bus, and I don't trust Krul enough to feel confident with a one-goal lead.

Krul was money for so long that i think it's just a matter of getting his head back. Team looked much crisper passing today than last season as well. Saw explosiveness and general signs of life that haven't been there since 2011-12. If we can crack the top 10 and bring in say 2 more good young players either this window or in january then it's been a successful campaign. They aren't too far away from having then talent to get one of those europa league spots but more money needs to be spent for sure.

How did Wijnaldum and Mitrovic look?

I know Wijnaldum had a goal and Mitrovic came on as a sub and picked up a yellow.

Well like you said Wij scored, he looked good thought. Mitro was booked almost immediately and was less good.

Florian Thauvin made some controversial statements yesterday:

quote:

“I’m very happy to be here at Newcastle, and I’m surprised in a very good way to see such a well-organised club here.”

You're not the only one surprised, but maybe McClaren really has gotten things turned around?

We've got ManU this week and Aresenal next so it's going to be a tough road to get points in the near future, but the schedule will lighten up considerably in September.

If you would have told me Newcastle would have one point from the MU/Arsenal stretch, I would be happy and a little surprised. Next week's match against Arsenal will be fun to watch.

I have faith in getting 3 points vs the gooners... Things are coming together for us sooner than later

I'm a little too jaded to be optimistic just yet but we'll see

Arsenal didn't deserve to win, and Newcastle didn't deserve to lose.

I'm thinking we're going to need 2 of the following 3 to happen:

A) Sunderland to beat or draw against Norwich, but do little else and finish on 33 points or less

B) Norwich to get no more than 3 points total the rest of the way

C) Palace to lose out

Plus we would HAVE to beat Villa, Palace, and Swansea and get 1 other point between Southhampton, Man City, Liverpool, and Tottenham.

OR to get a little more wiggle room we can give any 2 of the 3 teams we're battling with another point or two, but we must beat either Spurs on the final day (hoping they have nothing to play for) or Liverpool coming a few days after their derby with Everton.

I mean yeah probably. 85% or so, but there is still a path. Would be less crazy than LSU making the 2007 BCSCG after losing to Arky.

A, B, and C are all unlikely. NUFC getting 9 points from palace, Swansea, and villa is also unlikely, doing that and getting a point from Manchester, LFC, Southampton seems borderline impossible. There are just a lot more variables at play here. More pieces have to fall perfectly in place. I mean, you're saying getting 50% of your season win total in the last few weeks is a must. Between that and all the other variables i'd put relegation odds closer to 95-99% than 85%

You're 6 points shy of Norwhich and they still have matches with Palace, Sunderland, and 2 with Watford. I know there's a game in hand, but it seems borderline impossible for Newcastle to stay up at this point. If Villa is dead, the executioner is readying the needle for Newcastle
