May I ask a stupid question regarding penalties?

Has it ever been discussed of having a penalty box type thing in soccer? If someone gets a yellow card they play short handed for 10 minutes or so.

yeah, its on the next FIFA meeting agenda, along with making the goal bigger, eliminating offsides, and petitioning lebron james to join the USMNT.

probably infinity times.

to put it bluntly. terrible idea.

"hey, let's take different aspects from other sports and just smash them together and make one sport. then we can just do away with all other sports and have one, superior master sport"

i know that's exaggerated but srsly

It would be interesting to see "power play" type effects for yellow and red cards.

A single red card all but guarantees an outcome. Also, some straight reds are bad calls.
A "5 minutes for a yellow" and maybe "15 minutes for a red" would probably be more appropriate than how it is now.

I'm definitely not trolling and I know a game as old as soccer isn't going to make major rule changes. Just thought it was a decent idea to up offensive output.

When and what was the last major rule change.

More goals scored in this WC than there has been in decades.

I wasn't talking about this tournament specifically.

Goals should be six points and then you get a PK after. It would be awesome.

Even this WC has been lower scoring than your average league match.

This would be hilariously awful for the game.

What constitutes getting a yellow card over just a normal penalty where the other team gets the ball. I understand offside now but this still confused me. Is it mainly takedowns from behind.

10 men teams would just turn the game into a suckfest for ten minutes unless they had something to chase after

Last major rule change was probably the backpass rule in the early 90s

Goalkeepers were allowed to pick up balls passed (with the foot) to them by their teammates. I'm sure you can imagine what that turned into

You might actually find MLS's early rules interesting. This article covers some of the changes they made initially only to abandon them later
