If I could pick any national team for the US to emulate, it would be Italy. Love watching them play.

I was thinking about that the other day, actually. They should be who we model ourselves after. Hard-working, athletic defenders, smart and organized tactics. That's something we can do.

Italy has an identity and players who buy in. That's half the battle.

USA has no identity.

Yeah with good coaching and a consistent philosophy throughout the ranks, I think we could achieve that in a generation. The technical ability and sheer volume of special players would take longer maybe, but we could at least instill the philosophy and be much harder to play against.

Unfortunate that they now have to play Germany now

Germans may be favored, but they've never beaten Italy in a comp that counted. Italy (and clubs like Juve from Serie A) are always tough outs, especially if they score first and can sit back and play defense.

Bright side is we could get the best game of the entire tournament on Saturday

Sucks that one of these teams will bow out in the quarters

What does Cesc even bring to this team?

So first off great game from the Italians....could be a classic against Germany.

Now why the hell did Del Bosque bring Cesc over Isco....is it because of the whores?

Silva, as well(although he´s a bit more interesting and useful than Çesc).

Uh, really don´t know what Del Bosque was thinking. Pretty embarrassing to go out in this fashion.

Thiago would have at least brought some more mobility to the position.

Glad thats over. Can't eat when Italy plays.

If Germany are finally going to beat Italy this could be it. Tho I thought that in the last Euro.

The only way to close the talent gap quickly is through tactics and hustle. A Conte/Bielsa hardass would work miracles with the current usmnt roster.

And big thanks to spain for further screwing chelsea's summer. Fabregas is further exposed as a weakness and Conte is still in france.

Conte has very much revitalized this Italian national side. Gli Azzurri have been very tumultuous lately, and Conte deserves a lot of credit for what he has done for them. I'm glad that he has got a chance with Chelsea too.
