Good Guardian run down of the transfer window

quote:

The issue of Thiago Alcântara also needs clearing up. In his case, it has been portrayed as him snubbing United for Bayern Munich when the truth is actually that Moyes decided he was not entirely comfortable going for the Barcelona player. United had been monitoring him for three years and effectively lined up the transfer but Moyes, as everyone at Everton can testify, likes to have a huge amount of background information on new signings and, having initially gone along with it, decided in the end he did not want to take someone else's word about a player he had seen infrequently. Again, it boils down to a new manager shopping in a new market, with a limited amount of time.

Did he not watch the U21 Championships? While he shouldn't make his transfer decisions off of a quasi youth tournament, you'd think that Thiago's performances in it would compel him to, I don't know, find some video.

ETA: Just for fun. Here's Deadspin's half assed and ostensibly incorrect contribution LINK

I mean, if SAF's staff gives the go ahead, I'm taking their word for it. The problem is that Moyes is bringing in a new system.

Just when we all think he's on the outs, BAM 5 more years.

I DO like Nani. On his day, he can be devastating. He' needs more consistency. He is BY FAR the fastest person in our squad and he really frees up some options tactically.

I hate him, but he has a lot of talent... not so sure you can call it potential anymore..

He did go on a tear a couple years ago for a stretch, that I was afraid was his coming out party... then he went back to his inconsistent ways...

Bah, some primo talent, first side talent, was playing in that tournament. Across the board.

I cannot believe Moyes wouldn´t trust Fergie´s crew.

Moyes to review scouting network

I dunno, I'm not looking too much into this until it's verified by more sources. If true, it seems like Moyes is trying to deflect some of the blame for the transfer window. The scouts and scouting network/scheme has served as just fine in the past.

Good win this weekend Rooney played very well again, as did RvP. Januzaj looked amazing when he came on and with him and Zaha our wings look to be pretty damned set for the future.

I loved how we played after Fellaini came on. Fellaini was sometimes dropping stupidly deep to retrieve the ball from Ferdinand and Vida. Really freed up Carrick to move up the pitch and I think we've kind of all forgot how well Carrick can pick out a pass up there sometimes.

Kagawa was out with an illness but I'm desperate to see him plug into the team. He really needs games. I love the way he plays.

What y'all think about Carragher's comments on Scholes?

I feel like you should keep your mouth shut when it comes to players who are twice your caliber.

Proof that not everyone can transition to being a pundit as smoothly as Neville did.

It cannot be overstated how good Fellaini and Rooney were tonight. Good start to the Champion's League campaign for Moyes.

I already loved Fellaini, but his work today in a United kit (didn't watch Saturday's game) was AWESOME to see.

He is slowly approaching favorite player status. CR7 is still holding on right now.

Fellaini just provides such a strong presence in the midfield. I like Carrick but always get the timid impression from him. I LOVED the way the team looked offensively yesterday.
