Anybody watched this?

I was just scrolling through the documentaries last night and stumbled on it.

It's subtitled "Another History of France," and it parallels the French national team's history with the political and social environment in France from 1996 to 2016.

It's really well done, one of the better soccer documentaries I've ever seen. Some of the interviews they have for it — especially the former national team players and figures like Eric Cantona and Arsene Wenger — are extremely honest.

Some of the images of the 1998 World Cup, which I had never seen before, were pretty incredible. There's also a great inside look at the crazy 2001 friendly with Algeria and the Nicolas Anelka scandal at the 2010 World Cup.

Ah yes, the demi World cup, traditionally played in between two regular world cups.

Don't worry, nobody has ever seen these images before.

That's what happens when you're trying to type and are staring at "1996."

Always figured this would be a good 30 for 30, but I seen it's already made. I hope to catch it on youtube one day. France futbol reminds of Miami football in a way.

Still waiting for France to quit prying talent from the carribean and North Africa and shift the focus to south central Louisiana.

T, imagine a team of Gremmillions, Daigrepoints, Couvillions, Godchauxs, and Gautreauxs reppin that bleu. The rest of uefa would merde their short pants yea.

It's a known fact that there are no Boudreaux's left in France. Or Landry's.

Thibault is a great first name. Reminds me of Tai-bo.

I always wondered if there was a Cajun in Manou named Thibault Courtois.

Watched it a while ago. Overall, it's a good documentary, but there are some issues:

Wenger is annoying.

There's obviously a bit of a political bias and motivation, with Hollande trying to rehabilitate himself and attack his opponents before the elections.

There are some things that they don't go into enough (the Benzema stuff, the contrast with rugby - you fricking have Toulon's DoR there - and its effect on the countryside, Domenech being a nut), and there are some things that they can't get into because of the subject of the documentary itself.

I noticed when I was watching it with my wife that some of the translations from the French are wrong.

I'll have to check it out. I bet it's based on this book I read a while back LINK

It's written by a Duke historian who studies French colonialism in the Caribbean but is also a big fan of the French national team. For an academic history book it is really well written and he has a lot of good player interviews in there too. I highly recommend it for those who like the documentary. You can probably get it really cheap on Amazon.
