Landon Donovan on McKennie's MIA | UPDATE: McKennie heads back to Italy

He was on Grant Wahl's podcast and made it sound like this was a little bit more than McKennie getting fricked by an arbitrary COVID protocol.
quote:
"I am privy to what happened, not going to announce that publicly, I will just say that I am incredibly disappointed in Weston. I can understand at Juventus during a long club season, you're sitting at home for months and you want to have people over.
Is it the smartest thing to do? no, but I get it. This is one week of your life with three massive games, not only for yourself but your teammates and your country to go to a World Cup.
The level of selfishness in that moment is beyond me. I've made a lot of dumb mistakes in my life, I get it. I'm not here to be all righteous. He is young, yes, but he is old enough to understand that you don't do this, you don't need to put yourself in this situation and put your team in that situation.
Would they have won the game if he was on the field yesterday? I don't know, but their chances would go up a lot if he was on the field and their chances of winning or getting a point in Honduras go up a ton on Wednesday if he is in the lineup.
I am just really disappointed in him, it doesn't mean you write him off as a horrible human being, he needs to learn from this, but this can never happen again.
It is almost beyond repair and he has a lot of work to do with his teammates to make sure he never does something like this again, because you lose trust with your teammates, this is their livelihood, these guys want to go to a World Cup.
Christian knows what it feels like to sit on the field in Trinidad crying because he didn't go to a World Cup and you can't put your team in that situation.
I hope he has apologized profusely, I hope he is able to make the trip on Wednesday for the game, but he really needs to make amends."

Man I wonder what he actually did. Regardless he needs to grow up and act like a fricking professional. Posted an apology on Instagram that sounded pretty sincere but I can’t imagine letting your team down like that during the first WCQ window.

The fact that Donovan mentioned the Juventus house party makes me think Weston hit up Broadway Street the night before the match or some stupid shite like that.
Which, if that is the case, COVID or no COVID, what a fricking stupid thing to do and you should be suspended for partying before a match.

Yep can’t stand people who put themselves before the team
Thought he may have learned something from CR7
But I guess not

Exactly
This isn’t Tony Adams’s Arsenal days or Georgie Best at United

Probably crashed a bachelorette party and brought back 3 bridesmaids to the hotel

So US Soccer just announced that McKennie has returned to Italy, also Dest won’t travel.
The big addition coming in is….
Jackson Yeulll

Gregg:
"Weston will return to Italy and will be unavailable for the match against Honduras due to a violation of team policy,” USMNT head coach Gregg Berhalter. “There are high expectations for those who are a part of the U.S. Men’s National Team, and in order to be successful it’s important that everyone in the group is accountable."

I guess it had to be a locally based guy, but I would’ve much rather had Chris Mueller or hell is Nagbe available.

I hope she gave him some low grade herpes so he'll think twice about doing it again.

Nah, Carlos Vela straight up told El Tri to frick off.
This is Gregg telling Weston to get his had out of his and his dick out of some Nashville redneck strange.

I actually said it seems more like the opposite, but hey, you do you bro.

I know what you said but that's just your speculation. Every report makes it pretty clear it was COVID related.
