United States record goal scorer Landon Donovan has suggested to ESPN FC that coach Jurgen Klinsmann should be fired if it loses to Mexico in the Confederations Cup playoff on Saturday.

quote:

"Well, the same holds true for the coach and so we had a very poor summer with bad results in the Gold Cup. The last game against Brazil was probably the worst game I've seen them play under Jurgen. The reality is that now, anywhere else in the world, if this coach had those results, and they lose this game against Mexico, they'd be fired.

It comes off as sour grapes but he's right. Bradley was fired after losing to Mexico in a Gold Cup Final. We freaking lost the 3rd place game.

I know that was when he was fired, but I'd be surprised if that was why he was fired.

Probably not. The whole team didn't look that great in the whole tournament. Think we lost a pretty bad game in the group stage against Panama.

Right message, but from the wrong person. Lanny Cake haters will claim it as sour milk, when in reality he's correct.

I understand the fustration with Jurgen. It sucks because he experiments too much. Pick a style and tactic that suits your players, develop them and perfect that style. The only reason why I'm not ready to give up on him is because he recruited his arse off and got us so many dual national players that will be vital to the future . With that being said if this game is a shite fest and we get dominated I agree with Donovan. Find a coach that knows his shite and gets the best out of these players. We have way more talent than Costa Rica and Jamaica , but yet their coaches have them looking like a team that can hold possession and string together passes for easy goals. Also we're like the only team in Concacaf that can't place a good corner kick into the box. Instead we crowd the keeper everytime and hope Bradley bends that shite in. You know what the more and more i think about it I'm on board. Fire his arse if we lose. Hopefully Klopp waits until after our Mexico game. If we lose hire his arse before he signs with Liverpool.

I agree with Landon. I'm also not a fanboy who vilified JK for leaving Landon off the WC roster. Donovan is right though, anywhere else and JK would already be gone. If he blows this major shot at getting us into an international tournament then yes, sack him. This would be the straw that breaks the camels back.

See, I'm not sure if I buy this yet.

I mean, I think it's easy to say that Mexico is by far our biggest rival. Well, Jurgen has NEVER lost to Mexico and that's saying something for a USMNT manager.

In actual competitions he's batting at a .750 average over the four that I hold meaningful. The 2013 gold cup championship, WC qualifying and finishing top of the table and escaping the group of death in the World Cup.

I get just as frustrated as everyone else when we get our arse kicked by Brazil or whoever it is in a friendly, but it's just that, a friendly. A game that ultimately means nothing and which Jurgen is using to test other formations and player combinations.

Now if Jurgen does lose this match then I definitely think he's on the hot seat, but he shouldn't be gone. You shouldn't be fired for friendly results when you have a solid record in actual competitions.

You never mention this year's gold cup in your entire post which is where a lot of the heat is really coming from. I am not saying he should be auto fired if we lose, but the seat should be very warm.

I mean I said he's batting .750 in actual competitions with the one failure out of the four obviously being this previous Gold Cup, just figured that was implied.

But yes, I agree with your statement that his seat should be warm should he lose.

If I could go back in time and remove one German from the course of history, then WWII still would have happened.

Landycakes is such a selfish and insufferable a-hole. All he did was create even more pressure for the players with his childish comments. Now the players will have will to deal with this distraction. What an a-hole.

Should be fired based on the overall direction of the program.
He should have lost his job the day after we tumbled out of the Gold Cup.
