Any advice would be appreciated as to drills, formation, strategy, etc.

Cheers!

Work on passing, staying spread out and picking their heads up and not staring at the ball/ground as kids tend to do. These are basics 12 years old can start to learn and should know to play more competitively. Oh and moving without the ball

Keeper007 coached the Guyana women's national team, so I'm sure the level is pretty similar and he could help you out with some solid drills and post-game snacks and stuff.

Thanks. This is not travel/select, but there are tryouts Tuesday.

I remember we had a stopper/sweeper when I was that age.
Would you recommend that? I saw a blog about a 3-4-3, which seems like a good formation.

Also, it is my goal to have them communicate constantly. I haven't a clue about their skillset yet.

Just say pass it to space while you sit back and relax. Full field suicides, throw some cones on the field to act like you're setting up a drill, etc

Easy chief. We are a national program. We had pb&j and cakes. Also salt fish & bakes.

I believe successful players come from drills and sessions where a lot of decision making is involved. Build your session beginning with your technical aspect you want to train for that week and then add something that makes them make a decision when applying the technique. For instance I used to make kids work on turns and have to find a certain area of the space they are working in when other players run into their area.

Stick to heavy technical at this age and decision making. Lots of 2v1 and 3v2 before scrimmaging. Be very short with your instruction and make the kids figure out the drill.

Go to some local ODP practices in the area. Those are likely best guys to learn from.

Haha sorry, just trying to give you a hard time

You've coached at a higher level than anyone here probably so I'm glad you stopped by this thread for OP's sake.

That National Program comment was with a hint of sarcasm FYI. We ate some random stuff while we were traveling. I also found out I really like guava jelly and goat curry.

Guava jelly is tasty. Never had goat curry though. Those Caribbean islands are a world of their own. I know some people who lived there for Med and vet school and they have some interesting things to say about them.

I'm serious. It's great. My girlfriend is from Hawaii and guava is very popular there.

Good man. It is excellent. I'll have some to celebrate United winning all 38 BPL games and the treble. Throw in community shield for good measure.
