My disagreeing with you makes me "hopelessly miserable"?

Damn, you are dumb.

Seriously how often does a teammate come out and say "with xxx in our team we are going to suck, they such and shouldnt be in the team"

Ridiculous that a teammate backing him is seen as gospel

Maybe not, but if Jozy was truly as bad as a couple people on here, and most non-American fans think, then I don't think you'd have teammates going out of their way to defend him. They'd be pissed bc they weren't being given the best chance to win.

If he is still the best the USA has then I think that is exactly what they would be doing to try and build his confidence.

Jozy's season at Sunderland was epitomized by the 31 pass move Sunderland had against Man U, which ended with Borini hitting the post. I made a post about all the things Jozy did wrong in that passage of play, which continued around Jozy with Altidore contributing absolutely nothing. In terms of the EPL, he's a below-average to average striker, whose best hope is to be the poor man's Emile Heskey.

Jozy still has tremendous room to improve, but the light switch needs to come on in this next 8 months, or else he'll be loaned out, and then sold, probably to a MLS team.

Also some of you have no ability to retain objectivity with regards to American players. Our top level players are still technically deficient in truth. Hopefully our next generation will be better. It's not a personal slight. But the evidence we have on hand suggests that this is the case.

This does not mean that we aren't a good team. We are. But we have a clear ceiling. We can move beyond that this tournament, but that won't mean our technical deficiency will suddenly disappear.

I think that's a bit harsh. I think he has more upside than that.

I agree with this though.

I would be very surprised if Altidore scores more than ten goals in the PL in four seasons. And you do Heskey a massive disservice. He was an international quality player who was a fantastic target striker, who was not a very good goalscorer. His record in the PL was never as bad as Altidore's though.

concur

i am interested to see how he fares in a more settled sunderland side next term (assuming he sticks around)

wickham finished the year strong, who knows what the future holds for fletcher, borini is due back at liverpool. the window may be open for him to play a bigger role, he'll just need to grab it this time.

I am glad that he does tend to play better with the USMNT than he did at Sunderland.

What I hate about Jozy with Sunderland is that he plays like a pussy sometime. He's massive in comparison to some players, yet seems to shy away from contact and physical play in general. He has to realize that his best attribute is his physicality, and he should use it much more than he does. When he does, like when Sunderland played Newcastle, he plays really well. I mean he played really really well that game.

Part of the reason that it really killed to leave off maybe our most technically proficient player. It really hurts to be missing his service, clinical finishing, and those incredible final balls in the box.

I know we had an extensive debate about the US winning a WC in our lifetime, and I completely agree it will not happen with anyone currently in our pool, but I really a lot of things can change in a few decades from now. It was more that I would not rule out a WC in say 2058.

I wouldn't rule it out either, and I didn't intend for our earlier discussion to be read that way. I'm frustrated by the fact that American players can't seem to get opportunities on top teams, especially when other new soccer nations have/had players on top teams.

I think we can win a World Cup, but I think we are two generations away from really competing at the top tier. This is the hardest jump to make, and we've reached the second-tier without any real elite players, and I think we can push on now that our youth system seems on track.

I think we were arguing the same thing for pages. Dammit. Maybe we had big differences on when we expect to die.

Well, he just needs 8 more over two seasons to accomplish this. I think saying you'd be surprised at that is a bit ridic, but we can disagree on that.

Also, Heskey never had to play for fricking Hull or fricking Sunderland.

If Jozy harnesses his physicality then he can be awesome at times. He beasted the frick out of Sagna, which impressed the hell out of me.
