How to plan a soccer trip

So for the last few years it's been a dream of mine to fly over to England and see a game at the Etihad. The problem is, is that I have no idea where to start. Are there packages that can make the trip cheaper overall, is it better to book everything individually? How hard is it to find tickets? Is it possible to see a PL match on the weekend and then also get a ticket to a UCL match during the week?
Any help is appreciated and if you're a Chelsea fan frick you.

In before plenty of empty seats.
I'm actually really interested in this topic as well. Although shouldn't be very hard to get tickets to Sunderland.

Most have member sign ups on club web sites. Register as member and hope you can get tickets on the pre-sale before they release to to general. Most charge a yearly membership fee.
Most clubs you can get tickets thru their respective ticketing site, but some clubs like Chelsea, Arsenal, etc are extremely difficult to get.

But in honesty, it is best to get the membership. Mine has paid off big time. I haven't been able to purchase tickets from the club directly due to never having enough loyalty points to get them during the sales due to them being sold out before getting to my level, but it allows me to use the ticket exchange. On the ticket exchange I can search for tickets to the game I want and choose seats that are available.
However, so far I haven't seen the options for UCL or our COC final on the exchange.

Im planning a trip this summer(late May-mid June) and will miss the regular season games. So I looked at the Champions League Final on June 6th. tickets are more than what I will spend on my trip and they have package deals worth $12,000

I was able to get tix to WHU, Fulham, Tottenham, Newcastle, and Aston Villa with no problems. Ditto for HSV, Bayer04, Freiburg, and Eintracht. Real Madrid, and Bayern I could not get tix without going thru viagogo $$$$$$$$.

Haven't been to Manchester or the Northeast, but having been to see QPR several times and going again in a couple weeks, it's not all that complicated to set up. I'm sure there are travel packages but I don't have any experience with them.
Game tickets generally have to be bought directly through the home club's box office. Depending on the club and the opponent you may need to buy a club membership (probably $40-$60) to get access to ticket sales. But it's not unusual for tickets to go on general sale to the public. I imagine tickets can be had fairly easily at Man City except for games against the top clubs. Just check the schedule and go to the club's website for whatever matches you are interested in.
Accomodations aren't too difficult either. If you look around enough you can find something affordable. Hotels are one way to go, Home Away, AirBnb also very useful services especially if going with a group of people. (Next month, I'm staying in an apartment a block from Loftus Road)
Personally I would recommend London as it will be more accessible and there are dozens of clubs and games to choose from (not all Premier League obviously), plus lots to see and do outside of football.

I am sure there is a package where the owner will cook you a pasta dinner after the game.

Lol thanks for the info in the later post!
About how much would someone say that a trip costs from the states?
Posted on 2/12/15 at 2:52 pm to McCaigBro69
Depends where you go. I've gotten a hostel in London once for about 13 pounds, but they can easily be 40pounds for a night to stay. Then roughly 20-30 pounds minimum for food if you eat out daily. 25 pounds for the membership, and for an adult Chelsea ticket its about 50 pounds. Other clubs will generally have similar prices, lower for teams like Fulham and QPR and higher for Arsenal. Then you'll pay about 10 pounds a day in transportation costs for the tube.

That word sounds so gay to me.
Do the people in the UK actually use the term, or is it usually just douchebag Americans who like to use English slang?

Put the poop in the punch bowl, jeez. That is a total Euro slang. I have heard this referenced to fans of Chelsea, Man City, Hoffenheim, PSG, and RB Leipzig.

Like others have said you have a few options. Become a member of the club you want to see, buy on a 3rd party site (not all teams sell through these sites), or buy a package through a site like Thomas Cook Sport.
I set up my vacation around the Liverpool-Chelsea game which has become infamous for Gerrard slipping. I did that through a package and saw Arsenal after becoming a member of their club
