I can't speak for anyone else but to me the main function of the USMNT is to help grow the game in this country and the only thing that really matters as far as that is concerned is how you do in the World Cup. 2014 was wildly successful in that regard and based on that alone I would not fire Jurgy until after 2018 unless there were some seriously bad loses in WC qualifying

National managers should not get more than one cycle.

And we got just as far in 2010 as 2014.

Also, and I'm sure I'll get hate for this, but we should target Neil Lennon. He's perfect for our talent pool.

Klinsmann's last 10 games
7-1-2
Goals Scored 24, allowed 9
Wins: Mexico, Germany, Netherlands, Guatemala, Honduras, Haiti, Cuba

Bradley's last 10 games as MNT coach
4-4-2
Scored 11, allowed 13
Wins: Canada, Guadeloupe, Jamaica, Panama

Edit: To clarify, I'm listing it as W-L-T.

2010 was a successful WC campaign too.

You had someone with a great resume and a vision who was waiting in the wings to step in. Who is that person now.

It was also the 2nd WC for that coach which IMO is the limit for just about anyone.

The bookies had us 4th in that group and our best striker went down injured 20 mins into the first game. How can that be seen as anything but a success?

2010 also had far less talent

The sad thing is that Yall are thinking Mix might be the answer as our creative playmaker. He is not that good. Maybe better than Bradely at that spot, but that's not saying much.

Bradley is better than Mix at the 10 imo. Bradley isnt good at that position, but we dont have anyone else.

Given the group we drew, the overall spike in interest that was able to be sustained for as long as reasonably possible, and the respect that was earned for US soccer abroad I would argue it was more successful than 2010.

Most things I saw had us advancing from the group.

Lol no

Our group:

1. Eventual World Champions
2. Have one of the best 2 players in the world
3. A team that knocked us out of the previous two World Cups.

I agree that he should get some caps. He's better now than he was when he actually got playing time on the USMNT. Sacha Kljestan has no business getting called up ahead of him.

Im just going by what I recall seeing. Not saying thats my opinion, but I recall a lot of analyst having the US advancing from the group.

Y'all seriously need to give it up. I feel like people are going to be bitching about this 5 cycles from now.

So you've forgiven Steve Sampson for leaving John Harkes at home (even if he was a douchebag) and trying to play a frickING 3-6-1 and finishing last in the 1998 World Cup?

I haven't.

Shitty managers make shitty decisions. They should (and do) have to own those.

Maybe if Jurgen didn't experiment with Bedoya at center mid, we would have another viable pivot for when Beckerman is just too slow to deal with a team. Or maybe we can keep calling in Morales, Williams and Trapp and have them play left mid and hope to just figure it out along the way. I mean, that's not Jurgy's fault. Nooooo, we're just experimenting!

Yea, he is one of the few players in our pool who is actuially composed on the ball. I wish Jurgen would give him a shot, but I assume that ship has sailed.

We got bailed out by Portugal when we should have sealed advancement with some decent time wasting in the corner (which Jamaica gave us a masterclass on tonight) and Jurgy refused to bring a like-for-like backup for the player he based his entire Plan A on. Also, Wondo.

Hendo you're kind of a twat but I upvote you every time you mention Jurgy playing defensive mids out wide.
