FIFA said it is giving away 20,000 free tickets for Women's World Cup games in Auckland, Hamilton, Wellington and Dunedin amid concerns about the slow pace of sales in New Zealand.

quote:

Former New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern is also trying to drum up interest.

"My feed is going to be dominated by a lot of football chat these next few weeks -- not because I'm an expert, but because I'm so excited that New Zealand is hosting such a massive event..." she wrote in an Instagram post.

Meh, move to soccer board if you want.

Then don’t put the World Cup there.

Resigned as Prime Minister after some of the most severe COVID lockdowns and vaccination mandates in the world. Subsequently awarded three fellowships by Harvard. Hmmm…

The women's game is still growing globally, and the expansion from 24 to 32 teams is going to continue that, as will the rise of established clubs in Europe.

It seems much more likely that ticket sales are light because it's 20+ hours of travel from goddamned anywhere.

But, feel free to Politard the frick out of any and all topics.

the mens world cup wouldnt have trouble selling tickets.

They shouldnt be paid the same.

Its fricking common sense.

You are a retard by making this political, same as the women.

the rest of the world cares less about women's soccer than they do Rapinoe's politics. The only reason it is remotely popular in America is because we win.

Putting this in one of the most remote countries is completely retarded and they shouldn't be surprised

Didn't address - don't care

"It's a travel nightmare from most of the world" seems a lot closer to fact than political stance - but apparently you're the smart one.

She's a good player but it will be easier to cheer for the USWNT once she is gone.

Are you finally coming out? That is clearly a man!

Are you saying they would have a similar problem if the Men's World Cup were hosted there? The example article you posted has a still image of empty seats...that isn't quite the same as free tickets...further, you can watch the full game and see that the seats fill in as the game goes on. And empty seats could mean many things, not solely lack of fan interest. Unsold tickets though?

They gave away 10s of thousands of tickets in 2010 due to lack of interest?
