after about 2 weeks of real play online, i've realized that it's almost unplayable.

the way long balls, through balls, and cross-heads work on the game in 14 is just retarded. the typical player i play against just pushes long through passes or long ball reactions (from their own 18 often, but almost always from their own half) and prays they get lucky.

while stopping them is typically easy, 10-15% will get through leaving them 1 on 1 with the keeper...sometimes 2 on 1. no matter how perfect your defense is, or how far you play back waiting on them (or even offside traps), a lucky-random through will penetrate your defensive lines.

if by some chance you do stop the through balls up the gut, they will send them on the wings to send aimless crosses again and again. again, you typically will stop these crosses, but there are some that you cannot stop. corners are deadly also. you can't switch to the proper defender, and about half the time even if you do, the Fifa movement restriction on players won't allow you to move him into position (Fifa will complete the movement they feel is necessary...this also fricks you when they play long ball b/c Fifa will control your defender a good portion of the time which allows the offensive player to "catch up" and steal the ball).

i'm playing mainly 4-1-4-1 with a variety of teams (bayern, real, barca, germany, netherlands, BvB, Milan, etc).

i have experimented with a 3-2-3-1-1 with juve (the formation with the CBs bunced) that worked. but juve is so fricking slow that it's tough to do much with them. i played counter-offside trap here, too.

After fighting my way to Division 2 last summer in 13, I played a few matches online in 14 and just gave up. Back to offline only for me.

i got to div 2 pretty easily last year and then stayed in div 1 until i had a mental block for a few months and slid down a bit. i got back to basics and climbed back up

it's always amazing on fifa online that the figs will ALWAYS figure out some flaw in the AI to play super aggro offensively

Yep! It works when you play friends offline too. One of my friends does it with City and it's almost unstoppable.

Back on topic, at the end of the day, you have to remember it's a video game. It plays at a much higher pace than a real game and things are going to happen more that wouldn't happen in real life. It's basically an NBA Jam for soccer. IT's far from perfect, but does a decent job at simulating a game. If you look at NCAA football games, do you feel the same? I've always wondered if you play the maximum length halves, does it play differently or is it just more of the same? I don't have the patience to play that long.

What Bho said. The game tries to jam 90 minutes of action into 12-20 (normally) while keeping a similar level of scoring chances. There's not a lot of down time, holding onto the ball, picking out a chance patiently...especially online.

There are still some holes that people abuse like crazy, but when it comes to sports games, it's a more accurate simulation than most in the genre. (I'm talking offline here. Online is a zoo.)

that still doesn't explain 65+ yard through balls connecting

i've played fifa for over a decade and have played online extensively for the past 5 years

there hasn't been a big of a flaw in the online AI since the speed demons of 2010

The absolute biggest bugs, is when your players just won't fricking move, your own players running into and knocking out the ball, refs are retards, GKs are retards, the AI are retards, shirt pulling,... I'm sure there's more but whatever, I still play it.
I don't get why a newer fifa would get worse. Like, issues that were non-issues in 12 or 13 are issues in 14

ive gotten used to these, and i enjoy the game, but no where near 11 or 12.

14s biggest sins are player switching and some really dumb AI. it frustrates me to no end watching players run past a high deflection, stand still while a slow pass rolls right by their feet, and defenders with 80+ marking stats letting attackers settle into the box and not challenge a cross. its these little details that never caused me to throw shite at the wall in 11 and 12. never played much 13.
