On Saturday, the club drew 24,376 fans for the final home game of the regular season, which broke a USL single-game attendance record. Of course, the record they broke was one they had set twice this season.

The support that the club is getting is fantastic. However, the club is still young and they are going to need to do a lot of things to be seriously considered for MLS. In short, the fans have committed, now the club needs to do so as well.

Utilization of the facilities at the University of Cincinnati was a brilliant strategy to help build the foundation. However, they are going to need a stadium plan of their own for the future and right now the club has none and has stated that they have no intention of developing one. That fact is an automatic excluder from MLS in today's selection process for those final four clubs.

Moreover, the club has no headquarters, training ground, or academy plans. When asked about these concerns, the owner stated that they may purchase a practice field at some point in the future. There are questions about the commitment and intentions of the ownership. They need to take steps forward with their vision for the club. There is a great opportunity here with this organic support and enthusiasm. Hopefully, the club matches it so this spark can reach its full potential.

I need to say that all of my information comes from sources that are from earlier this year. Perhaps there have been encouraging developments in the recent past.

Hopefully they can find an ownership group willing to spend some cash and invest in the team like they should. Sounds like the fans have earned it.

I agree. Even expanding the ownership group the way that Orlando City did by bringing in the Brazilian billionaire could be just what is needed. Another midwest club would be nice and a great rivalry could be formed with Columbus.

I know they played against crystal Palace this past summer and Palace players and administrators were absolutely blown away by the fans and atmosphere.

these games are fun as frick. ive been to probably 5, and it's a good time. really great atmosphere. city loves them.

they are not mls ready yet, though. don't have their own stadium or place to train. operations still seem a bit amateurish from my perspective. they will get there, though. fantastic inaugural season.

ETA: the crystal palace game and atmosphere that day was fricking amazing. really fun.

If you don't mind me asking, what makes the games so special?

NASL just needs to go ahead and give up. They fricked themselves and now USL is going to become the second tier in the American soccer pyramid.

Thankfully Draconian is banned or dead. Otherwise he'd be on a tangent over all this.

Can't wait to travel there when Nashville goes to USL. Figure they should get a national team game soon.

"The Bailey" fan section is really fun. Great soccer crowd. Nothing makes it "special" compared to solid Mls support, but it has been a better atmosphere than the Columbus Crew games I've been to. Just more buzz in the air, which could die down in coming years for all I know.

Glad we are going to USL here instead of NASL. Hell why do they have 4 teams in Florida and non on the west coast?

MLS Commissioner Garber is visiting Cincinnati.

quote:

Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber will visit Cincinnati at the end of November, a move that has set off speculation that the city's minor league team could become a major league team.

quote:

The Enquirer learned about the Nov. 29 visit after seeing mention of it on Mayor John Cranley's upcoming schedule. Cranley is set to give Garber a driving tour of the city from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. that day.

quote:

FC General Manager Jeff Berding confirmed the visit. A public event will also be held that day, during which the commissioner will talk about his vision for the MLS. Fans and supporters will be able to ask questions.

quote:

In June, Berding went to San Jose for the 2016 MLS All-Star Game and United Soccer League board meeting, a trip billed as the first steps for making FC Cincinnati MLS ready.

quote:

Cincinnati, then, would be vying for one of the four remaining expansion slots with several current USL organizations and other marketplaces. Insiders and observes alike have come to know Sacramento, Detroit, San Antonio and St. Louis as the front-running cities in the race for expansion.

Sacramento is a virtual lock for one of the four remaining spots. The other three are still up in the air. It is nice to see the mayor involved in the process. Political support is extremely helpful.
