Player ratings: (0-10)

G Tim Howard, 6 – Looked a bit uncertain on Javadov's shot, but did produce a save in windy conditions. Otherwise, he commanded his box well.

D DaMarcus Beasley, 6 – He put in a solid 45-minute shift. Committed no major mistakes, and looked eager to join the attack.

D Matt Besler, 6 – Created some anxious moments with some under-hit passes, including one that resulted in a shot, but settled down thereafter and looked more composed in the second half.

D Geoff Cameron, 7 – Looked assured in the back both in terms of his passing and his ability to break up plays. Did more than enough to hang onto his starting spot.

D Fabian Johnson, 6 – Got forward to good effect and defended well even though he wasn't tested often.

M Alejandro Bedoya, 5 – His play was kind of all over the place. He had some bright moments, including a pinpoint cross to Wondolowski, but some wayward passes as well.

M Jermaine Jones, 6 – Didn't seem 100 percent comfortable operating at the base of the diamond in the first half, forcing too many passes. His play picked up in the second though as he seemed to find his range.

M Michael Bradley, 5 – Didn't play up to his usual standard, though the spacing in attack didn't help. Was solid defensively, but his passing got steadily worse as the game went on. That said, his shot created the chaos that led to Diskerud's goal.

M Graham Zusi, 5.5 – Was active, and hit some decent set piece deliveries, but seemed to have less success when he tucked inside.

F Chris Wondolowski, 4 – Took up some great positions, but he has to do better with the chances he was given come when the World Cup arrives. His link play began to erode over time as well.

F Jozy Altidore, 5 – Battled well with his back to goal, earning a few free kicks, but looked a bit hesitant at times with the ball at this feet when he got close to the box. Looked more aggressive in the second half, including a nice turn in the box.

Subs:

D Omar Gonzalez, 7 – Showed no ill effects from his injury, and did well to snuff out one opportunity early in the second half.

D Timothy Chandler, 5 – Tried to push the tempo by getting forward as often as possible, but failed to have much impact.

M Brad Davis, 6 – Set up Johannsson with one of his trademark set pieces, and did well to win a free kick near the box.

F Aron Johannsson, 6.5 – Was left wide open on his goal, but give him credit for putting it away.

D DeAndre Yedlin, 4 – Didn't look up to speed at all, and didn't seem secure with his passes.

M Mix Diskerud, 7 – Not only did well to score his goal, but also kept the play alive earlier in the buildup by challenging for a header.

A friend watching with me said that Yeldin didn't look like he needed to bd out there.

I was surprised Julian Green didn't play any.

Honestly, I thought last night was the worst I have ever seen Bradley play. Lots of poor passes that I never expect from him. Having him graded the same as Altidore doesn't seem right to me. Altidore didn't score, but he was very effective bringing down long passes and dishing to an attacking player.

Agree Yedlin was probably the least effective player out there tonight and Mix played some great late minutes and probably was MOTM in my eyes, even with limited minutes.

Agree I was going to ask if anyone else saw this. Bradley had one awful pass that almost gave a gift goal away. He wasn't crisp in the least.

I don't know how you give Davis anything less than a 7. He caused what should have been a penalty and set up both goals. I thought he played well.

Can't say I remember Yedlin doing anything that stood out in a negative manner. I actually felt like his defensive play was pretty spot on... he does seem kind of forced when making passes though.

I really hope Turkey and Nigeria try and attack... watching us try to break down a bunker defense is about as boring as soccer gets.

He was poor. Far from what we've come to expect from him. Altidore was far from having the same grade as MB.

Again, let's call it what it was. Piss Poor. He looked scared to death, gave away a couple balls to Aze in their attacking third.

Mix seems to always play well. I really like his play and would like to see him get some more minutes.

I'll grant you that he had some nice set pieces, but he definitely struggled at other times.
The way AZE was playing, though, nobody had much space to work in our attacking third.
Part of me thinks that's why JK held Green out last night. It would have been hard for him to impress against that bunkered defense.

Davis trapped the ball then got hacked. It's not like he took on a defender and was brought down. He had some good balls in the box, but that was by far the worst set peice defending I have ever witnessed and that the USMNT has ever and probably will ever face. He had a good game, but hes not MOTM and was not all too much of a standout for me.

2nd header was pretty good.

I was more bothered by his touches away from goal. If we're going to start the match with two strikers, we need Dempsey healthy or we need to call in Donovan. Or let AJ play. He looked good to me, and not just on the open header.

Yea no idea why he is ahead of Bacon, Bacon is a much better finisher and seems to have a much more polished game even being so young.

My guess is that it's just because he's more senior. That's all I got though.

Ive got nothing b/c he took LD's spot. Id rather bring LD off the bench than Wondo.

Yeah Wondo's 2nd header was nice just a really good save by the keeper. His touch away from goal was the problem.

I didn't really notice the bad things Yedlin did like everyone else. He is very fast though. Is he naturally a RB or LB?

Anyone else think Fab looks much more comfortable on the left than Chandler did?

If he had buried those two headers last night, like JK would expect based on how he had finished for the USMNT over the last year, we wouldn't be wondering why he's ahead of Bacon.
I'm glad he didn't bury them, though, because that would have been the story today instead of "His link play began to erode over time as well. ", which doesn't even tell the story, because his link play was never that good.

to etm:

Yeah Chandler doesn't look comfortable on his left foot (though I think he had one good left-footed cross). Only reason I can think for keeping FJ at RB is JK thinks he's a better RB than Chandler and wants to be as strong as possible on the right side even if it means giving up some attack on the left. Chandler didn't have any sketchy moments defensively, did he? We'll see how he fares against Turkey, who I assume will attack.

Looked understandably nervous to me.

Wondo has more minutes and goal of late with the NT so he was going to get a look before AJ. However I would expect that to change with more performances like last night
