These are not things that should be said by fans of a team as big and proud as Arsenal should be.

Optimism vs. realism is the constant dilemma for a fan. But do any neutrals out there really expect Arsenal to go into Munich and run shop today? I would say there's a small chance they might go through but percentage odds are certainly in Bayern's favor.

How does this compute with you. A "johnny-come-lately" would have never seen Arsenal win anything of any sort.

Thinking that Arsenal is in any way, shape, or form a "big club" comes from the Wenger era. Before then, they were a mediocre club. Wenger's tenure is really the best time for the club since the '30s.

come on, bhoy. clearly, manU and Liverpool are historically the biggest/most successful clubs in England, but we're clearly third. in terms of historical success, we've got more than just the thirties and the early Wenger era. it's ignorant to say otherwise. in terms of historical success, recent success, supporters worldwide, revenue, etc, there's no question we're a big club and it is most certainly trolling to say otherwise.

Third doesn't make you a big club. Third and the European Cup makes you a big club, assuming that you stay relevant throughout that time. That's what separates ManU and Pool from the rest of England (note: I am not saying that Forest, etc. are bigger than Arsenal, just that league titles + Europe makes a big club).

Arsenal screwed themselves by not winning the group and getting drawn with Bayern but then again I'm not sure if anyone will beat Bayern this year.

The third biggest club in the best league is "big" club. Maybe not elite, but big.

By your definition is Aston Villa a big club? 7 league titles and a Euro Cup?

Except that England wasn't the "best league" until recently.

Well they have had 5 teams win a cup in Europe, no other country has more than 3 and if not being banned from the competition they would probably have at least one more which would put them level with Spain and Italy for most total won.

To break the tension, I didn't realize Sebastian Lletget was training on the Jersey Shore

So I got back to my flat and there's the final 15 minutes of an Asian Champion's League match.

Three observations:

1. Goal was comical. Goalie caught the ball and threw it backwards.
2. A guy who was subbed off just came back on wearing another guy's kit.
3. There are about 70 people there.

When one club accounts for 9 of those and another club with 4 (many of which highly dubious) and the other has 5 different clubs that have won it says loads about depth/strength of the respective leagues.
