You can't know where the USA will play yet but Brazil is set in stone, I might have to go somewhere other than Rio for US , although it would be cool to see USA play its not a necessity its should be fun enough to be in Brazil period

How can you even start planning right now without knowing where the USMNT will be playing their games? This is the challenge for me...to know which city to be in at what date so that iI can catch the right games.

This is my problem, when does that get announced? I might take in some other matches, but if I go to Brazil I'm fvcking watching the USMNT, bleedat!

I'm expecting around $5K including flight.

There are so many options. I will probably also tour South America while I am down there. Brazil might just be one stop along the overall journey.

I am trying to get together a group of probably 3 guys to go. I've got my best friend on board and need to find one addition. If you get more than 3, the logistics can get difficult (finding decent hostels with that many openings is a PITA).

I'll get serious about this in 6 months.

I expected the SB to have this answer

I know we aren't the only people facing this issue, so there must be a date where the match dates get set.

This is fair...flight is probably $1500. Tickets will be $150/match (this is a guess). I'll plan on staying for the entire group stage and part of the knockouts...but I need to see how many days this will cover.

I was there from 2007 til 2008.

You're older though, aren't you?

Anyway, how was Florence? I've heard it's amazing.

How were the atmospheres for the games? When I went to a Chievo Verona game last year I would have to say that it was pretty lackluster.

I'm undecided about going to Brazil. Being in the same general time zones makes it a perfect WC to watch from home/bars here.

I may wait and travel to Qatar. I've been there before, and know my way around. Plus, you can plan in advance for that one, since all stadiums will be driving distance from Doha.

Russia may be cool also.

We are the same age...I started in Fall 07. What dorm did you live in?

It was my second trip to Florence -- gorgeous area but it didn't do as much for me this go around. I spent 10 days there previously and then was there another 3 this trip. It was literally identical in every way imaginable...so I guess that made it feel different. It was really cool knowing my way around the city without a map. I wish I had been able to go out into the small Tuscan villages...to me those have such a cool vibe.

The top of the Duomo is arguably my favorite spot in all of Europe. I have been up twice and literally spent an hour in awe both times. I can't imagine a prettier view of a city.

Fiorentina was a lot more relaxed than Hamburg. It is an older stadium and Palermo maybe have brought 50 visiting fans in total. The weather was absolute crap...the entire second half fans spent under the stadium because it monsooned on us. I think there were about 30k fans at the game. We had some teens get high as a kite next to us the entire game. I was surprised to see smoking 4-5 blunts in a stadium was totally acceptable.

Hamburg was absolutely fantastic. We scheduled this match because it fit with our schedule, but it had huge implications as it turned out for Hamburg. It was win or not qualify for Europa League so the place was packed and the energy was there from the start; probably 55-60k in Imtech Arena. The last five minutes they pulled the goalie and players were flying all over the pitch doing anything possible to push forward. Eventually Schurrle got on a break away with Hamburg only playing two back and scored. I have a beautiful video of the entire thing taking place...I just videoed the last five minutes because it was epic.

Hey, forgot about this. I was in Townsend. What major were you in? This would be hilarious if we knew each other. And yeah, I started when you did.
