For instance, if it is 2-0, I would assume Wenger will keep attacking, right?

We have the edge in goal differential right now, but the higher the better. This group is coming down to the last match for sure.

I guess we can hope for a Dortmund Napoli draw and relax for the last round with a win today.

Yep. Dortmund hasn't been playing that well, but they are desperate for 3 points today.

if there's a three way tie, only GD against the other top two teams matters. if bvb win, I hope it's only by one. unfortunately, we'll have to have a go at napoli no matter what midweek when we have City that weekend :/

Thanks for that bit of information.

We can only really worry about what is directly in front of us. Today is all that matters.

Damn, didn't realize that. So, I guess 1-0 is as good as 10-0. Still pulling for a win and a Napoli draw.

from arsenal's website:

quote:

According to Uefa's rules, if three teams end the group on the same number of points, the following 'tiebreakers' will be used (in order) to decide who progresses to the knockout stages:
(a) highest number of points obtained in the group matches played among the teams in question (Arsenal, Napoli and Dortmund - not Marseille)
(b) superior goal difference from the group matches played among the teams in question (ie. Arsenal, Napoli and Dortmund - not Marseille)
(c) higher number of goals scored in the group matches played among the teams in question (ie. Arsenal, Napoli and Dortmund - not Marseille)
(d) higher number of goals scored away from home in the group matches played among the teams in question (ie. Arsenal, Napoli and Dortmund - not Marseille)
If, after applying criteria (a) to (d) to all three teams, two teams still have an equal ranking, criteria (a) to (b) are reapplied exclusively to the matches between the two teams in question to determine their final rankings.
If this procedure does not lead to a decision, criteria (e) to (g) apply;
(e) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
(f) higher number of goals scored from all group matches played;
(g) higher number of coefficient points accumulated by the club in question, as well as its association, over the previous five seasons.

goal difference overall could eventually count. just really need to hope for a low scoring affair in Germany. if Dortmund dominates Napoli, we're on treacherous ground.

I know what you mean. I really want more runners off the ball. Ramsey and Giroud make runs off the ball, but I want Theo and Ox back. Podolski is the worst with this though.

updated after today's results

quote:

for reference's sake:

Arsenal 2-0 Napoli
Arsenal 1-2 Dortmund
Napoli 2-1 Dortmund
Dortmund 0-1 Arsenal
Dortmund 3-1 Napoli

(a) - will be equal
(b) - Arsenal +2, Dortmund +1, Napoli -3
(c) - Arsenal - 4, Dortmund - 6, Napoli - 3
(d) - Arsenal - 1, Dortmund - 3, Napoli - 1
(e) - Arsenal - 5, Dortmund - 4, Napoli - -1
(f) - Arsenal - 8, Dortmund - 9, Napoli - 8

in order to win the group we either need to get a result in napoli or lose by one goal and score 3+. (assuming BVB thump Marseille)

only a catastrophic loss to napoli would get us out of the final 16 though.

How catastrophic?

12 points out of a possible 15 in the "Group of Death" is pretty impressive. On top of the BPL by 4 points. Pretty awesome start to the season boys and girl.

I LOVE this team..
