His preferred role?

thiago is the least of cesc's worries at barca.
he'll give it another year in Spain. seems too unlikely...
I would feel better about our chances next season with Villa as opposed to Higuain or Jovetic, but I also prefer looking for the future too.

kroenkes' damn lost their minds letting Ujiri and Karl go. gazidis quotes today on arsene extending his deal are even more interesting now...

what do you guys think of the Fellaini rumor? good (possible) addition?
I'd be frickin chuffed if we picked him up.

I don't think he'd be a perfect fit for our style (not the greatest passer or first touch) but I would not be opposed to the signing at all. very talented player who'd give us a different look and also help on set pieces offensively and defensively. would be interesting if he took the box to box role Rambo occupied. his positioning does kind of scare me, but he was very good in that regard against us in our last matchup. not creative enough to be our no 10 so hopefully he wouldn't play there.
some more smoke about higuain coming to arsenal today...

I'd be ecstatic if we signed fellaini (well and higuain of course lol) because arteta is getting up there and fellaini said his preferred role is defensive or holding mid.

No he wouldn't fit our style at all. He's not the passer that Arsene typically wants in midfield. We'd have to drop either Arteta or Ramsey. An Arteta/Felliani midfield combo would also be extremely slow, and it would be imperative to win the second ball. The Arteta-Ramsey axis worked well because of Ramsey's tireless running and pressing, as well as his new found ability to win the ball.
All in all, I'm rather confused by some of the links that are being made. For example, Higuain is a poacher who relies on superb service into the attack positions, but rarely creates himself. He doesn't hold the ball up, he's not known as a link player, but he scores a lot. Felliani is a powerful box to box player who can't really play the short passing game we want to play, but can impose himself physically on teams just by his sheer size. If we do buy them, I'll be interested in the formation we play, since we would be losing some creativity by dropping Ramsey for Felliani, and we'd be losing the ability to exploit space behind the CB's because we'd drop Giroud for Higuain. Thus we would probably rely on our full-backs to support and deliver more final balls, which might expose us defensively, unless Felliani plays as the deepest midfielder, who only breaks up attacks, and then looks for a B2B player who begins our attacks. I hope this is making sense.

much better way of expressing what I was trying to say. there's probably a better use of £24m out there, but maybe not. if Arsene is targeting him at that price, I'd (optimistically) presume he has a strong sense he can fit a certain role for us.

This guy says we are getting Cesc. He is rarely right though so prepare to be let down

No chance this happens. If I take that attitude it has a small chance. I'm less right than that dude.

So it doesn't look like we are getting Jovetic, and Higuain as his replacement is meh.
Here's hoping Wenger can unearth another gem somewhere.

yeah, saw that. honestly, i wouldn't be wholly opposed to buying another creative midfielder instead and rolling with Giroud, Walcott, and, if injury/suspension/acts of God occur, Poldoski up top. sure seems like we are close with Higuain though based on all the reports. The only other pure no. 9 out there that I would be fine with getting is Cavani but we'd damn well use up our entire transfer budget just meeting his buyout clause

If we could get rid of Gervinho and have Ox play well for more than a game, and somehow keep Miyachi healthy, I'd be cool with adding one more creative/B2B midfielder. Someone like Ander Herrera would be really nice.
