Any high school soccer coaches here? Advice needed

My wife and I are moving back to Louisiana. (I read the OT, no pics) She's already accepted a teaching position at a school that does not have a girls soccer program, or any soccer program for that matter.
My question is how difficult would it be to start a program? What would be the first steps to take to get set up? How should she go about bringing it up to the administration?

Not sure how it works in LA, but in TX my friends and I finally got our school to start a soccer program my senior year. It took three years of going to school board meetings with a number of students who were willing to play.
We were a very succesful football and baseball school and soccer just was going to take away from the funding of those. We got turf though my junior year and that propelled it.
For the program's first two years we could only play friendlies. I saw this year though, our girls team got 3-4 rounds deep in the playoffs, not sure about the guys. It was fun playing 6-7 games my senior year for my school though, I'll never regret sitting through what felt like 75 school board meetings.

Have coached high school soccer on La for almost 20 years now. I am guessing it is a smaller school as most of the medium and up already have programs. The argument you are going to get is that it will pull players from all 3 of football, baseball, and basketball. Most smaller schools see it as a numbers issue. There have been grassroot campaigns in several areas, some successful some not. Depending on where you are there will be someone who can help. Of course, we have the public vs private disaster going on right now, so lots of unchartered waters for everyone right now.

It's a 3A school in between Alexandria and Lake Charles called Oakdale.

I'm not a coach but my son was part of the first soccer team at Lutcher and we were with the program as it grew from scratch to being a good solid program.
I also wasn't involved in the effort to get the program but from what I understand it was a several year effort of lobbying that finally paid off.
I think what you need to do is try to find and connect with parents of like minded students who enjoy soccer. Probably the area rec or travel program would be a good place to start. You and they will have to be willing to do the organization stuff and ready to do fund raising if the team is instituted.
Then the person you really need to win over is usually the AD (who often is the same as the Football coach). And of course the principal and the powers that be on the school board.
Once our AD and administration embraced starting the program they've been very helpful. (One thing the AD insisted on was starting with varsity from the beginning. None of the playing JV only for a year or two as the program finds its feet. And looking back, that was actually a very good choice.
Good luck to you. The sport is growing in the high schools. In my own opinion it is the only hope to attract and identify talent to try to move up as a soccer playing nation. Though there is some fund raising involved, its not like the pay to play club system.

You'd be surprised. Schools like Beau Chene, Alexandria, St. Louis (in Lake Charles I think), Deridder, etc. all have good to very very good programs.

Can't be any worse than when St. Aug started a soccer team in the Catholic league
