Sergio Canales, an elegant, eloquent and all capable creative midfielder who was slated for great things, succumbed once again to a major ACL tear, which looks to be combined with a PCL tear (posterior cruciate ligament).

Football has always been cruel, and once again, underlines said condition.

You people know him as being a major signing and hulabaloo at RM, who has been quite solid at Real Sociedad.

He's been the leader of a Spain side that's won everything, Europe and World, since he was 16 years of age.

I remember him mainly from that one season at Racing Santander.. 09/10

He was suppose to be the next big thing... wasn't quite ready for the leap up to Madrid.. that and the move coincided with the beginning of this latest wave of galacticos..

Yes, I didn't say enough between his RM signing and passing on to Sociedad.

His signing at RM was way too early.

I thought someone died with this title Dandy.

ACL injuries are a bitch. I tore mine two and a half years ago and had it reconstructed and it still doesn't feel right.

My boy just had his ACL and PCL repaired this month. I hope he's lucky.

How old is your boy? Soccer injury? I assume y'all live in Spain, but I know you were born in the states, correct?

I'm back in the US (have been since 2012).

He stopped playing competitively at 16. As y'all know, he was in the Real Oviedo system.

He's in university now, and believe it or not, he tore his ACL and PCL surfing. Very strange.

Did not know this. Why did he quit?

That's fricking weird. How does that even happen?

He said he was coasting on a long, sloppy wave, last one of the morning, before getting out. Felt a pop. Really weird. We're thinking he had problems previously.

As to dropping football. He was always the darling child, hated the attention, hated the jealously and animosity his stardom created, and got burnt out. I could not convince him to persevere. The competition obviously was much more intense, he was not up for it. He's very gifted athletically, and anything he tries, he does well. Therefore, he gets distracted with ease.

Any tips for preventing burnout? I wonder how you prevent that from happening.

Sorry, Dandy.

Has he tried surfing again?

I don't really think he loved football. I think he played because I and other family members were choffed with how good he was. I think it was more about showing himself he could compete/dominate, more than a love of the game.

He was very stereotypical American-like however, in playing a total game (in spite of being very, very technical, he defended like a banshee and covered a lot of ground in each match, and got after people for not getting back, or if in place, for not getting stuck in).

Of course he will, it's part of life. That's one thing he can't do without.
