I want you to remember that no bastard ever won a war by dying for his country. He won it by making the other poor, dumb bastard die for his country.
Men, all this stuff you've heard about America not wanting to fight, wanting to stay out of the war, is a lot of horse dung. Americans, traditionally, love to fight. All real Americans love the sting of battle. When you were kids, you all admired the champion marble shooters, the fastest runners, big league ball players, the toughest boxers. Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost and will never lose a war, because the very thought of losing is hateful to Americans.
Now, an army is a team. It lives, eats, sleeps, fights as a team. This individuality stuff is a bunch of crap. The bilious bastards who wrote that stuff about individuality for the Saturday Evening Post don't know anything more about real battle than they do about fornicating.
Now, we have the finest food and equipment, the best spirit, and the best men in the world. You know, by God I, I actually pity those poor bastards we're going up against, by God, I do. We're not just going to shoot the bastards; we're going to cut out their living guts and use them to grease the treads of our tanks. We're going to murder those lousy Hun bastards by the bushel.

I love how England and Mexico have no hope (no 1st or 2nd).

Let me tell you an American story:
I was at the hospital today with my Aunt who was having a masectomy done (she has breast cancer). Even though she is one of the most upbeat people I know, the rest of us, well, we're all in a pretty bleak mood.
My grandfather struts into the room with a big old grin on his face. To understand why that is so shocking is to know my grandfather. An army veteran of the end of WWII and Korea, a 35 year HS teacher/basketball/track coach/principal, and a man who is known for being pretty surly. Don't get me wrong, he's an amazing man, one I try to emulate, but he doesn't show his emotions very often.
Anyways, he struts into the hospital with a big grin on his face. I look over and contemplate why in the world he would have a big grin on his face. I thought:
a.) he's going fishing tomorrow (Which he is)
b.) maybe he had a good pot of coffee this morning
or
c.) he's excited about the CWS this weekend?
I walk up to my grandfather, give him a handshake and a hug and we catch up for a few minutes, until finally I asked him, "Grandpa, why were you so happy when you walked into the hospital."
He said, "Ryne, don't you know what starts tomorrow?" Immediately, I thought that my 86+ year old grandfather is losing his mind. I replied, "Grandpa, the CWS starts on Saturday I think."
He said, "God damn the CWS. The World Cup starts tomorrow. I can't wait to watch those chinks and mexicans do crazy stuff with the soccer ball. And guess what Ryne, I believe that the US is gonna win the whole fricking thing! I didn't go clean shite up in Germany for the Hun to beat us in soccer."
I stumbled back, shocked that first of all my grandfather knew we were going to play Germany, let alone that the world cup started tomorrow.
My blood began to pump faster and I just wanted to start screaming...

My grandfather, a man who was so embarrassed when we lost in 2002 to South Korea that he said he'd never watch "that damn communist shite" again, has fallen in love with this team.
He even mentioned watching the warm-up games, saying that the "big black boy" was his favorite player. I did not even attempt to ruin the moment by trying to figure out who he was referring too.
Anyways, I figured I'd share with other people who care that soccer really is spreading. People are excited.
THIS IS THE YEAR

Aaah, just caught it. I´d really call them Galicia Sr., to be honest.

I had the same reaction to Australia but then I scrolled down and saw we are rooting against ourselves, too.
Must have been a lot of "americans" from Texas and California answering that survey.

He likes Spain. Loves watching Spain and Brazil play.

That list is hilarious. Pretty upset at Australia they're the only country worth a shite rooting against us. Germany and England have our backs which is all that really matters

Wasn't that "Harry Pitts" with the NOLA flag?
That's Seattle, right? WCQ against Panama, I think.

Yeah Seattle.
To Harry!
Was watching pump up videos and almost spit out my coke when I caught the Nola flag up front.
