Ok I gotta rant. Bear with me if you care to.
YOU CANNOT EQUATE THE FAR RIGHT AND THE FAR LEFT. STOP DOING THIS. It's uninformed at best and violent and dangerous at worst.

The "alt-left" stands for universal healthcare, free and public quality education, reparations for the centuries of damages done to marginalized peoples, an end to the police/carceral state, and living wages (among other things). Like, your absolute farthest left non-anarchists believe that all things should be communal so all people and needs can be cared for. THAT is the goal of communism were it fully enacted - this is what your capitalist country has taught you is a universally evil ideology...caring for each other entirely. Think about that.

THE FAR RIGHT LITERALLY STANDS FOR WHITE SUPREMACY - IT IS THEIR MAIN DEAL.
Obviously we all, except the president/nazis, understand that saying both sides are fault regarding Charlottesville is disgusting and offensive. But when's the last time you or a friend said "well nonviolence is the only answer" and "the far left can be just as bad as the far right"? Think of what you're saying. People who are putting their lives on the line to stamp out fascism/white supremacy and protect their victimized brothers and sisters are likened to the white supremacists.

Take some time and learn about the history of defensive violence. Black communities in the south during reconstruction that were largely protected from the local KKK's attacks only because of creating a coordinated, violent front. Think about how many violent events in history our culture reveres - the American Revolution, the French Revolution, the Haitian Revolution, on and on - Americans love to obsess over those who "fight for freedom", but I ask you to consider that black folks, indigenous folks, immigrants, disabled folks, trans folks, and anyone else using violence (or doing anything really) as a means to create their freedom in this patriarchal, white supremacist, cis/heteronormative, brutally capitalistic culture are doing the same thing...but based on actually living the oppression that needs to be fought against. Does this mean every violent act in resistance or for liberty is smart? Necessary? No. But I beg for others to and personally continue to search for nuance. The white liberals and white moderates at many points in history believed it was going too far to give the vote to black people, to native people, to women - that it was too far to integrate schools, or allow women to work or have control over their reproduction - you see where I'm going here. REALIZE WHAT SIDE OF HISTORY YOU ARE ON.

Read more. Think more. Examine your beliefs and where they came from; examine who had a stake in making you believe those things (hint: it's almost always old rich white guys who want more money and power).
I really do think things can get better, but I sadly also believe they'll probably get worse first. I'm going to fight harder and show up more and keep learning, hope you will too.
