The Young Turks Network has just announced $4 million in new funding from an unlikely source: former Louisiana Governor and 2012 Republican presidential candidate Buddy Roemer. The seed money, which includes an option to go up to $8 million, came from the politician’s private equity fund Roemer, Robinson, Melville & Co., LLC.

Cenk Uygur, who hosts the network’s flagship The Young Turks (billed as the largest online news show in the world) and founded TYT Network, previously served as a contributor for MSNBC and is generally seen to have a liberal bent to his politics, though his views can also err on the libertarian side of the spectrum.

“The Young Turks and TYT Network have long been a source of independent news and politics for our millions of fans,” Uygur said in a statement. “While we don’t necessarily agree on politics, Buddy and TYT both understand money’s damaging influence on our government. Buddy and RRM support TYT Network’s mission to bring our viewers the unrestricted truth and analysis of the world’s news – from politics to movies, pop culture, sports and more.”

They need it. Their production values are early 1990s, cable access television levels of horrible.

I don't like Alex Jones but watching him pick on this guy and rile him up at the convention was freaking hysterical

Watching The Young Turks, especially the stupid entitled white bitch, completely meltdown after such cockiness early in election night is one of my favorite things ever to watch on Youtube.

I know I'm not on the up and up, but I just don't see when people put the time in the their life to go out of their way to sit down and stream shows like this.

TYT viewers, do you come home in the evenings and watch the show every night?

Yeah, he flushed that money down the drain

I get that YouTube is not chickenshit for some people, but it's not THE future medium people think it is...so needless to say I think investing $4 million in a YouTube channel is beyond fricking stupid.

Cable TV is dying. Plus, they don't have to listen to the giant corps that run the MSM and people paying for commercial time.

You have to get out more. The amount of people that just pay for internet and stream what they want is growing fast.

Direct TV, Comcast, Suddenlink, etc have been f*&king people for too long.
