You ever feel bad that Germany doesn't have any sort of World War 2 Wehrmacht memorials?

How many truly innocent young German men lost their lives in that struggle but will never be recognized because they were a part of the "evil Wehrmacht"? It's sad that a some random 18 year old German kid who fought for his homeland, same as any American or Brit, will always be remembered as evil and terrible. I detest the Nazis, but Germany's washing away of WW2 and the sacrifices made their hardworking people always irks me. War has good and bad on both sides, always. The Nazis were obviously the "Bad guys" but the German soldiers still deserve a good bit of respect.

EDIT: No, I don't have a tiki torch.

I could definitely see why people would be against it, but I'm thinking about it on a personal level and I think there should be some sort of memorial with an asterisk.

No, I don't really care one way or the other. Wouldn't care if they had monuments. Weird thing to think about.

They have cemeteries.

But kids don't got to Klaus Barbie Elementary School on Hitler Lane.

Meanwhile, our chilluns go to Lee High on Raphael Semmes Drive.

This.

Germany pretty much wiped out any reference to the Nazis. No memorials or anything that would come close to honoring them. Hell you can't even buy german model airplanes in germany if there is a swastika on the plane.

Yes but there are still a few memorials to the Wehrmacht scattered around the country and at least one U-boat memorial that I have visited. Obviously. swastikas and Nazi party stuff are verboten although my barracks in Germany still had swastikas carved in the walls, they were just painted over.

I worked a job at a facility in Missouri that had house German POWs during the war and there were swasticas carved in the walls there. It was bizarre to see.

The SS troops were bad but your average Wehrmacht guys were kids thrown out as cannon fodder just like our kids.

I feel much worse for folks who've apparently never traveled there, and don't know better

I totally agree - the average german soldier where honorable men of good character.

The leadership was evil to the core - but the young men caught up in it had no real choice.

THank you for the info - I am glad that the good common men whose lives where thrown away for an evil ideology are remembered honorably.

I did not know these existed

I'm sure that is true. There are a lot of lies surrounding the Germans in WWII. People who speak out against the common narrative of what happened are often arrested, banned from public speaking, and have their books banned as well.
