She's apparently not including the costs of immigration in terms of social services.

But that's to be expected from the person that is in charge of the money printing press. Costs are no obstacle.

I love how people on the left try to use the argument that we would be losing cheap labor which will drive prices up and ignore what would happen if we raised the monument wage.

It's just another hypocritical side to the left, we want higher wages for everyone, except illegals. We need to keep their wages low for the economy.

FWIW, the majorly is perfectly okay with legal immigration, even Trumpkins.

But there are those of us on the right who that both immigration is good for the economy AND increasing the minimum wage is near meaningless gesture.

A huge number of tech workers are hear on H1B visas as a pathway to full citizenship. Slowing immigration of those population pools would unquestionably slow growth given the importance of the tech sector.

This is essentially the argument set forth by Washington state in the lawsuit filed to stop Trump's 7-nation travel ban.

But haven't we been told time and again that states have no standing in immigration issues, and if immigration is hurting (or helping) your state... TOUGH shite?

That's the judicial pivot I do not understand, somehow it matters now for Washington state.

Absolutely.

I actually read the quote wrong. I though it was about illegal immigration. So my post isn't all that relevant to the topic.

Ok, but it sounds like the issue in question is the rate of immigration, which could be too high or too low. OP seems to be suggesting it is too high, and seems to question that there would be any cost to growth imposed by reducing it.

Simple. Entitlement reform. Hunger is a powerful motivator.

No. Not at all. We have a lot of inactive people here, need a larger percentage participating in the economy until we start bringing more people in here.

The left was anti illegal immigration a couple decades, ago because they feared business would take advantage of cheap labor. My how times change.

Yes. But it's not actually a relevant point.

Put it in smaller terms.

Say you have a nation of 10 people that produces 100 things.

Then, 5 people move in, each producing 5 things.

Your economy grew from 100 to 125.

But, as I'm sure you can figure out, that's not the entire question.

She's right, it would slow economic growth.

However, the truth is that our addiction to growth as the be-all and end-all of our economy will lead to our destruction as a functional, free nation.

Growth through population increase is just one of the net-negatives that is undermining our prosperity. Other examples are wage arbitrage, planned obsolescence, and wasteful corporate and government spending.

We should have been focusing on sustainability, not growth. Too late now, I guess.

Illegals are a net drain on the economy with what they dump across the border with remittances and the social services they use without paying for in taxes
