They are raising money on their own for GED classes and whatnot, like many other community organizations do. There's nothing wrong with it, and it's certainly not worthy of scorn.

I think it's fairly well established that validating mental illnesses and severe personality disorders just encourages more overt manifestations of the illness or disorder.
