Who says Democratic states can't govern?

New Yorkers are being advised by the local news to put up "No Trespassing" signs to stop squatters from stealing their homes.

Well…… it’s worked so fabulously for “gun free zones”.

They may as well put a neon light on the house that says “squatters, this one is empty!”

Real problems get real solutions in leftist areas.

This strategy will not work. Why? Because a squatter isn’t trespassing, they are claiming adverse occupation or squatter’s rights. What’s the difference?

A trespasser is someone that knowingly enters someone’s house, building or land without permission or authorization, but without the intention of claiming the property as their own. Trespassing is a criminal offense. Call the Sheriff.

On the other hand, a squatter is claiming ownership. To get rid of a squatter, the owner must go through the civil court system (rather than the criminal system). File a lawsuit. The Sheriff can’t help.

The idea is that a law must be broken in order to give the landlord leverage.

As if breaking and entering is not a law already on the books.

The crime of trespassing is not valid without notification of trespassing. Thus the signs.

Someone else already nailed it.
"No trespassing" might as well be a neon vacancy light for squatters.

The Inability to govern in new York is impossible to comprehend.
The combined IQ of government employees should be studied for other cities and future generations to guide a path to civility.

NY version of Canadian’s leave your keys in the car. How come we don’t hear squatter stories coming out of places like Baltimore’s 20,000 homes for a dollar or Detroit’s either ?

I up voted you for being right, but I should have down voted you for being right.

The stupidity HURTS.

So the squatter just removes the sign, takes a picture with their Obama phone and shows that to the cops when the owner tries to evict them.

Or, we could just shoot them. It's like dear old Grandpa used to say: "Son, you can wish in this hand and crap in the other - see which one fills up first."

Did you donate to his campaign? You might find that this affects what he can and can't do.

I've known people who have dealt with squatter's without the harrowing ordeal that you read about on here. You need to retake physical possession of the house before the police arrive. Once they do the person inside the house is holding all the cards. There are usually retired LE who work part-time gigs as PIs or skip-tracers and so on. Hiring a well- connected former cop as an escort is a strong move. Having mail in your name recently delivered to the address helps too. (Especially a parcel, which a squatter is almost certain to open.) $10 worth of poorly-made TEMU crap can land a felony right upside the squatter's head

I love it

Sounds like amazing advice, can't see any reason this won't work

What's the legal/constitutional basis for squatters rights? Seems absolutely insane.
