Or other "protectionist" measures? I know that constitutionally he would need congress, but with the current expansion of executive power, are there steps he could take "with a pen and a phone"?

I hear that's the trendy thing.

If he could, would you want him to?
A great hope that I have is that Trump will restore the rule of law and constitutional order.

Just cause the Democrats suck and trample all over the Constitution doesn't mean Trump should do the same as payback.

Plus ask Obama how executive orders hold up after he leaves the White House. He's gonna have zero legacy once Trump eviscerates his only real law he got (jammed) through Congress.

His treasury secretary can declare china a currency manipulator, that allows them to apply tariffs.

He's well within his executive authority.

I hope not. Do it the right way - increasing the executive power an inch more is two steps in the wrong direction

I'm actually for leveling the playing field for American workers - to some degree , but those tariffs will be passed on to the consumer.

Not if it allows US manufacturers to compete price wise.

No.
POTUS can levy tariffs on an industry w/o Congress.

Applying tariffs to individual companies like Carrier, as he's threatened, probably would require Congress
