What say ye?

quote:

MADISON, Wis. — Gov. Scott Walker moved ahead Monday with his plans to make Wisconsin the first state to drug test able-bodied adults applying for food stamps, a move blocked by the federal government or found to be unconstitutional when other states have tried.

Wisconsin's plan was approved by the Republican-controlled Legislature more than two years ago, but it languished because it conflicts with federal rules prohibiting states from imposing additional eligibility criteria on food stamp recipients.

Florida had a drug test requirement for food stamp recipients that a federal appeals court blocked in 2014, finding it violated constitutional protections against unreasonable searches. Walker filed a federal lawsuit in 2015 seeking approval to test food stamp applicants, but it was rejected because then-President Barack Obama's administration had not yet formally rejected the state's request to do the testing.

Every damn state should.

They should so the same for unemployment if the aren't already doing so, and pretty much any other form of government assistance.

I say, go nationwide with it! Just one more way to eliminate some of the deficit everyone talks about.

Gonna need some cost/benefit analysis before I can agree to it fully. How much money is saved from not giving out food stamps vs how much it cost to drug test large number of people.

You are a government employee when receiving funds, money, or any type payment. There should be no problem being drug tested! Every state should do it.

I'm not a huge fan of welfare. Unless it's going to children, elderly people or those who are truly disabled, I'm against it, period. That being said, didn't Florida already prove that it costs more to test than they save? Most people on welfare aren't on drugs. They're just lazy POS.

And every other government employee should be tested, too!

A program that has been around for over two decades. Not sure how it got that moniker. It came about during Reagan's presidency. It should also be eliminated.

Maybe for food stamps I guess. They're just going to waste a lot of money, but that's their problem.

Saliva test are dirt cheap.

But seriously, people are questioning the cost of a drug test versus the multiple hundreds of dollars given per month on food stamps?
