Will Devos fix "Crazy Checks"?

You know what I'm talking about. When parents make their kids act all fricked up so they can get into special education and collect a check from the government. You wouldn't believe how often this happens. Parents actively solicit their kids to act like fricking imbeciles because the family needs that money for something else (who knows what that is). They purposely sabotage a kids education and possible future careers for the immediate gratification of an extra $650 per month.
Your child isn't crazy, he isn't slow, he isn't disabled. He's this way because you as a parent didn't read to him, and teach him things that would further his knowledge. You didn't tell him that he could be an astronaut if he studied hard and focused on learning. That's why he is "slow"

If a child misbehaves enough they can be designated as having an emotional, social and/or learning disability. This qualifies them for Social Security payments which average around $600-$650 per month per child.
Talk to almost any public school teacher or social worker who works with kids and they'll tell you this is rampant (and has been for a loooooong time) in poorer areas.

Social Security issue, not a Dept of Edu issue

Yeah I guess that's possible. You can't get those with SNAP?

I see it first hand everyday. We will have students who are strait A's and B's and mom finds out she can draw a check from her child being "stupid" ( we call them stupid checks) then the kid starts getting F's on everything.
These parents would rather ruin their kids education and the rest of their life, so that they can draw a check.
I have kids who are 18 and are still in the 9th grade because they were told to be stupid their entire school career and now they have no skills or ability to function.
It is truly sad...

It is a dept of ed problem because it is Special ed teachers who determine who gets a "stupid check" we have AA sped teachers working with AA parents to make sure their kids draw a "stupid check."
The problem is, in our parish we have a desegregation law suit and everyone is afraid to say anything against the AA teachers.

I hope so. This is pretty infuriating.

yes the sped teachers determines if a kid qualifies for the "stupid check" and then a lady from the school board confirms it.

Have you ever had a student test out of special ed and therefore lose that money?? Lord have mercy. Talk about crazy, I have seen some mamas lose their shite when they found out their kid tested out of that benny.
It is a damn shame that we have a system that so handsomely awards failure and dumbness. If anybody thinks these people are using that money for tutors and Kumon courses they are brain dead.

quote:So a special education teacher determines if a kid is in special education? Or do they just fill out paperwork, when given to them, to verify a kid is in special education?

I didn't even know this was a thing until a teacher friend of mine told me about it.
This is just insane.

What are the chances this is an extremely rare occurrence which has morphed into an everyday boogeyman in the minds of those who want it to be a thing?

Same as Atlanta being declared Super Bowl champions because they led for the most amount of time on the clock.
Or Hillary being named POTUS because she won the popular vote.

Very low. My spouse works very closely with the school board and I personally know the Special Education director for 2 parishes who have verified that this happens and there isn't much they can do about it.
And I'm going to go all non politically correct and tell you that it happens WAYYYY more in the poor black community than it does in the poor white community. And in the wealthy circles, they don't ask for checks, they ask for special services and help for their kids. And they ask for a lot of it.
